Porcupine Tree has always been about exploring the resonance and
echoes found within Steven Wilson s subconscious. After witnessing
a road accident, Wilson was prompted to construct an ambitious
song-cycle exploring the numerous associations which this initial
incident triggered
Sewn together into one continuous 55 minute stream the end result
is a series of multi-layered perspectives which spiral beyond the
inciting event into a dark kaleidoscope encompassing bogus gurus
break-ups, betrayals, and all manner of bad blood
Wilson s avowedly melancholic outlook finds an unsettling shape
in the dreadnought thump of Occam s Razor, a grandly belligerent
entrance clearing the air for the full-pelt salvo of The Blind
House, with its mobius-strip riffing
Like In Absentia (2002) - which this new album seems to most
recall - or Fear of a Blank Planet (2007) there is placed the
apparently incongruous, competing elements jousting with each
other, a convergence of a surging, expertly-crafted melodicism
on the one hand and heavy flashes of eclectic electric guitar
heroism on the other
Not for nothing does Wilson s writing switch between such influential
polarities when at the mid-point of the album he declares I was
born in 67, The year of Sergeant Pepper and Are you Experienced?
on across the staccato attack of Time Flies - easily the most
addictive track on the entire album
Elsewhere, the explosive peaks of Great Expectations sests the
opening bars of King Crimson s Red maintains its reputation for
influence new generations of musicians
Hidden in amongst the densely compacted guitars and pummelling rhythm
section of Colin Edwin (bass) and Gavin Harrison (drums), Richard
Barbieri s ethereal keyboards add a dignified colour to the violent
thrashing which often surrounds it. The Yellow Windows of the Evening
Train contains a haunted choir and woodwind-like section that Mark
Hollis and Talk Talk might ve imagined
The end result of all this pondering perversely transcends the
gloom-laden gravity of its starting point. To infer hope from a
track called I Drive The Hearse seems counter-intuitive, but as
it slowly disappears, the sense of uplifting, welcome resolution
is tangible
Four extra tracks not part of The Incident itself are housed on
an accompanying EP length album. Though well worthy, it s the main
event on disc one that holds the juice and demands repeated
attention.

'Soul Tree' (sultry) is the debut album from the youthful, yet elegant diva, Mavis 'SWAN' Poole. This cd embraces her experiences from love, to pain and passion. Produced by the unrivaled brilliance of bandleader/drummer Jeremy 'BEAN' Clemons, this is a journey that you will surely want to experience. Swan is a well respected lyricist. 'Soul Tree' is the first born of many lyrical and musical conceptions from the Swan/Bean duo. Listen as her lyrics furnishes Jeremy's tracks with complimentary coverings.
'Mavis can sing almost anything and has a huge vocal range, both high and low. When I asked her to do 'Fly Me To The Moon,' she flawlessly skipped up a whole octave at one point, becoming a soprano. She trained her radiant smile on me for the whole tune. I was in love.' LOUIS MARTIN, journalist for Coast News, Shanghai/San Francisco
'And of what she sang I know not, but her voice touched every chord of my being; something hand alone cannot make. A voice that takes on many shades and colors, and out pours many musical instruments that all come alive from one being ethereal.' -the late, great, ULYSSES SLAUGHTER, Vocal stylist, technician, teacher
'Mavis is a musician whose soul is in her sound. She knows how to find the story in the song and make it MUSIC. It's an adventure you'll always want more of.' BRANDON MCCUNE, Grammy-nominated pianist, composer, educator

Shelby (lead vocals, guitar), 'Being all girl, all teen, we're usually pre-judged. People don't expect that much, but we usually convince the audience that we're a legit rock band, not just a `chick band.'
Katie Cecil, (guitar, vocals) 'We're authentic. 'All that matters is that we do play everything on our own. People will find out for themselves, but until they do it pushes us to work even harder.'
'Personally we clicked right away,' Shae (lead guitar) says of KSM. 'We feel complete, and it's really cool to have that camaraderie.'
'We have our distinct personalities, but musically and emotionally we get along,' says Sophia (bass). 'It's remarkable how all the hard work we've put in is finally paying off.'
Kate Cabebe, (drums) 'Our new album is awesome and came out rocking as hard as we intended it.'
When it comes to making music, Shelby (lead vocals & guitar), Katie (guitar & vocals), Shae (lead guitar), Sophia (bass) and Kate (drums) are a wrecking crew unto themselves. In songs like, Don't Rain On My Parade, Saturdays and Sundays and BFF they sing of the world they know: boys, dating, texting, playing and partying. Yet they also bring a surprising measure of depth, with songs like Don't Come Crying and Every Time You Go. You know KSM from one of their many tours across country or was it their catchy cover of I Want You To Want Me used by ABC for their Hit show 10 Things I Hate About You? Either way you look at it, these 5 girls take music into their own hands and make it a hit.

Comprised mostly of a man and his machines, San Francisco's Sweet Trip is the genius of Roberto Burgos. Featuring shoegazey beats and electronic experimentation, the vocals of Valerie Reyes add to the band's dynamic allure. Having immigrated from Panama as a young boy, Burgos brought a worldly perspective to electronic music from the band's humble beginnings. Along with Reyes' Filipino heritage and original bassist Viet Le's Vietnamese bloodline, the band's global perspective may have inspired the band's otherworldly soundscapes. The debut Alura EP saw the light of day in 1999 on California's Darla Records. The release was only the beginning of Sweet Trip's close relationship with the stellar and diverse independent label. Adding guitar to the usual suspects of keyboards and samplers, Sweet Trip set itself apart from other ambient/ electronic acts in the indie rock/pop landscape. The Halica LP was released in 2000 as part of Darla's Bliss Out series, along with the ish EP. Burgos quickly became a much sought-after producer, remixing songs for Takako Minekawa, Junior Varsity KM and Gnac, among others. 2003 saw the release of Velocity : Design : Comfort, again on Darla. Released nearly four years after its predecessor Halica, the disc showcased the band's powerful live sound better than any of their previous recordings. Guest musicians Aaron Porter and Sue Mee added new perspectives to the sophomore full-length.

With his unmistakable sound-mix of Jazz- and Swing samples and electronic music, Parov Stelar has secured his own unique position in the world of music. His upcoming fourth album “Coco” is eagerly awaited. The double CD starts off where his successful LP’s “Rough Cuts”, “Seven And Storm” and “Shine” ended. On the other hand he is consequently developing his established jazzy sound, by adding new stylistic elements to his tunes. Also his dancefloor-productions, that up to now have only been published as singles, find a debut to a greater extent on his album. They meet with Stelar’s melancholic-melodious trademark-sound, which is well known from his earlier albums, but now is also spiced up with Hip-Hop beats and synth-pads. Parov Stelar manages to build bridges between his own worlds of sound with these extensive LP as well he as he does with listening- and dance-music in general. An electrifying album to fall for. The two CDs are originally thought of as one with tracks that can be danced to and one with tracks just for listening. Nevertheless the line between those two approaches becomes blurred in Parov Stelar’s newest compositions. The album makes your feet tap more and more with every track. The musician himself sees the whole thing as a “book for musical readers” which is classically defined in introduction, middle part and end. Because of downloading hit numbers on downloading platforms the “listening in” to albums and thereby reflecting on less prominent tracks, is lost. Parov Stelar sets “Coco” as a statement against this habit. Apart from two cooperation-tracks with the saxophone-player from his live-band, Max The Sax, Stelar has cooperated with six singers from different genres. This again gives “Coco” a characteristic, one and only feeling.

With her new project Holidays On Ice and their new album ‘Pillage Before Plunder’, that voice is as intimate and gloriously addictive as ever. Album opener ‘Great Big Old World’ is beautifully subdued, allowing Angie to almost whisper the lyrical philosophies of life. She shares the vocal duties with fellow band member Dean Manning (formerly of Leonardo’s Bride) on ‘Fortune’, a slightly sweeter offering, before lead single ‘Dust Bunnies’ is given the chance to weave it’s magic. Instrumental track ‘Plunkett Street Push’ rewinds to a bygone golden age of British pop while ‘No Roses Grow On A Sailor’s Grave’ crosses genres and generations, New Order-esque sounds infused with some almost ‘60s pop sensibilities. On the moody ‘Out Of The Mud’, Angie’s vocals are like honey, the soundtrack almost haunting. ‘Eat A Peach’ weaves a little Francaise into the mix and ‘Ribbon Round A Bomb’ explodes out of nowhere in a cacophony of crashing drums and electric guitars. The whimsical ‘Mr Gould’s Treasure Chest’ is intriguingly beautiful, so too the album closer ‘Dog House’ with it’s almost carnival feel. While ‘Pillage Before Plunder’ might not be to everyone’s tastes (we most certainly wouldn’t class it a ‘pop’ record), there’s plenty of beauty to be found amongst it’s 11 eclectic tracks. And Angie’s voice, as always, is a treat to listen to.

14. Why U Wanna Go
The new album reflects the 19-year-old’s growth as a person as well as his evolution as a singer, songwriter, and entertainer. It is a buoyant collection of pop-fueled feel-good anthems and dance-floor clarion calls that bumps everything from electro-pop (the club-banging first single “Fire Burning”) to rock (”Shoulda Let U Go” featuring Good Charlotte) and from reggae (the breezy “Island Queen”), to R&B (”Wrap U Around Me”). The production is courtesy of a host of top-notch producers, including J.R. Rotem (who produced Kingston’s debut), RedOne (Lady Gaga), Wyclef Jean (who also contributes vocals on “Ice Cream Girl”), Detail (Akon), Lucas Secon (Jordin Sparks), and The Smeezingtons (Flo Rida).

‘Robots in the Orchestra’ is the debut album from Manchester based trio I Am Your Autopilot and is a collection of ten meticulously crafted songs that effortlessly blend soulful electronics and choral vocals with chiming acoustic guitars and analogue synth oscillations.
As well as garnering praise from the BBC, I Am Your Autopilot have collaborated with New York based multimedia artist Fredo Viola for a series of European shows in early 2009, including an appearance at La Cigale in Paris and a live session on the internationally renowned La Blogotheque.
The three members of the band have history between them - Ben Evans and Graeme Brooker were writing partners for a number of years in The Italian Love Party who recorded for Tony Wilson’s Factory Too label. Jasper Wilkinson played with Jersey Street, whose mix of soul and afro-funk was on regular rotation on the dancefloor at Manchester’s now legendary Electric Chair night.
As a three-piece the sound they create belies influences as diverse as Air, Spiritualized, Simon & Garfunkel and François Couperin and their debut album grabs you with its cinematic, heartbreaking and jubilant quality.
In 2008 I Am Your Autopilot were short-listed for the prestigious Best in Manchester award for their work in collaborative multimedia, and further projects are planned for the future including a multi-national cluster video and soundtrack work for Little Gorilla Films in New York.

Le Loup is an American indie band founded in late 2006 in Washington, D.C. Family is an expansion of Le Loup's sound, an introduction to the completed lineup, and above all else a showcase for Le Loup's strength as a live band. The musicians took an elemental approach to recording, capturing the organic sounds of their instruments before treating them with various effects. Certain melodic themes were added to multiple songs, linking the album together with their recurring motifs. The result is an album of experimental rock songs and campfire sing-alongs, set amidst swirling textures and murky production. Family is nothing short of a musical coming of age.

They infuse the music with an assortment of rock, ambient, spiritual hardcore worship (I just made that genre up, didn’t think there was enough already?). Sounding similar to The Glorious Unseen and Jeremy Camp you will discover throughout this album the element of beauty Great Awakening has to offer. This is the type of music you will want to listen to driving home from work or after having a rough day at school – it will lift your spirits, encourage you, and make you feel renewed.

Back in January, we reported that Clap Your Hands Say Yeah were taking a break from touring and recording, and lead singer Alec Ounsworth was 'testing out solo material with new collaborators.' It was all a tad vague and mysterious. Did this mean the end for CYHSY? And what of these 'new collaborators'? Half a year later, the answers are finally starting to roll in.
Ounsworth has not one but two new solo-esque endeavors on the way. As previously reported, there's Mo Beauty, a solo album recorded with New Orleans funk and jazz vets-- including George Porter, Jr. of the Meters, Stanton Moore of Galactic, and Robert Walter of Greyboy Allstars-- out October 20 via Anti-. There's also a self-released record due this summer credited to the moniker Flashy Python. The latter includes contributions from members of the Walkmen, Dr. Dog, and Man Man. 'I'm confused as to which project I'm addressing at whatever particular time,' admitted the singer-songwriter in a recent chat, in which he gave us details about his upcoming records and talked about the future of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah.

Circulatory System is a psychedelic pop band based in Georgia that was formed in 2000 by musician and visual artist Will Cullen Hart. Their music incorporates sound techniques from noise rock and experimental music with general pop music forms. They also frequently include traditional instrumentation and multiple vocalists for a choral style. Circulatory System is one of many bands that formed after the famed Elephant Six music collective split up.
Seven and a half years in the making, culled from hours of recorded material sculpted in at least seven different studios, the new Circulatory System album is an absolutely stellar document of song and sound. Still concerned with matters of the inner / the outer, the incomprehensibly huge and the very, very small. An imperative blast of kinetic motion, composed by W. Cullen Hart while in the midst of battling Multiple Sclerosis within his own system - broadcasting his urgent pleas to the world(s) to evolve into a higher dimension or for existing patterns to reveal themselves at peace within the natural order of the universe.
Signal Morning is the second studio album.

BRITE LITE BRITE's debut album Universe Universe is available now and marks their move toward organic electronica and a preoccupation with life and our universe.
'BRITE LITE BRITE's 'I Just Want U2 Myself' feels like a femaie fronted Daft Punk. Kind of like Lady Gaga as well. I LOVE the music in the song and it gives off that Daft Punk vibe. Lyrics are all about someone who is longing for another, and the visual lyrics convey the emotion very well. ' -TAXI
Brite Lite Brite's musical highlights include winning the GRAND PRIZE electronica category in the 2007 John Lennon Songwriting contest for 'Sky Turns Red,' as well as earning Semi-Finalist placement in the 2008 International Songwriting Competition for 'Now that You're Around.' Brite Lite Brite was selected by MTV to open for LOCKSLEY in the MTV Choose or Lose Tour in the Fall of 2008, selected by Platform One Entertainment as part of their Spring 2009 Campus Music Invasion program, and selected to perform August 2009 at Born to Play: LIVE Acoustic Performances in 700+ Gap Stores, the largest-ever simultaneous live acoustic music event, hosted by GAP.
Brite Lite Brite brings a fresh feeling to the over-saturated market of electronic music. Johnson programs intricate beats, providing pulsating rhythms that serve as the backbone of the band’s song structure. Over these beats, droning guitar melodies are layered to give a spacious atmosphere in which Andrea’s vocals dance, tumble, whisper, and scream. If the beats are the backbone of the music, these haunting vocals are surely the heart.
Platform One worked with Brite Lite Brite as part of our Spring 2009 Campus Music Invasion (CMI). As part of this program, we enlisted over 100 representative volunteers from college campuses across the country to promote, distribute, and represent the music of the CMI artists. These reps hosted listening parties with friends, took the music to campus radio and press, handed out free digital downloads of the songs, and collected feedback for all the artists involved. Brite Lite Brite has used the feedback from the CMI program to shape the sound of their new recordings as they continue to grow in new musical directions.
Brite Lite Brite is a standout act from the Spring CMI, and they have the potential to reach a wide audience with their debut album, Universe Universe. The duo is whole-heartedly invested in the music they make, and you can hear this devotion in the songs. Brite Lite Brite is unlike any other that I have had the chance to work with, and I have high hopes that they will go far with their unique combination of electro-acoustic sounds. Take a moment to hear it for yourself at www.britelitebrite.com.'
Brite Lite Brite was selected by Skopemag.com 'Artists To Watch' Feature in Spring 2009 and selected by SPIN magazine as 1 of 8 undiscovered bands worth a listen, hand-picked by SPIN.com staffers from more than 500 submissions around the world.
'Twitchy, Scandinavian-sounding electro-pop imbued with urgent, even desperate, vocals.'

Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album with a dynamic track-by-track rendition that features the New York Philharmonic orchestra, an Indian music ensemble and an array of several very special guests. At the helm is none other that the legendary Goeff Emerick, who engineered the Fab Four's definitive album in 1967, and brings and exciting authenticity to the celebration. Cheap Trick genuinely infuse their brand of Beatlesque power pop into a live tribute that pays homage to their musical influences, by capturing the essence of an album that changed music history.
Never before performed live in its entirety by the Beatles, this footage is an exclusive opportunity to hear the complete Sgt. Pepper album performed live by Cheap Trick, bringing the band full-circle in a chilling tribute to their musical heroes.

The album, like the ones before it, is primarily from the mind of leader Alasdair MacLean, but features more music from pianist Mel Draisey, who is said to have a profound affect on the album's sound. The Clientele are promising that Bonfires is a return to their older, denser poppier earlier work, which hopefully means it'll sound like their defining album, The Violet Hour.

8. The Only Child of Aergia
9. Ugly on the Inside
10. Curtain Call
As the title sests, Mike Kinsella's newest contribution under the Owen moniker is a bit of a departure both musically and thematically. Recorded over the course of two years, New Leaves, which is being released September 22 on Polyvinyl Records, enlists the expertise of multiple engineers such as Tim Iseler (Wilco), Brian Deck (Iron & Wine), and Graeme Gibson (Califone), whereas previous releases were primarily recorded in a makeshift studio in the home of Kinsella's mother. Musically, the arrangements on New Leaves are more elaborate. Kinsella's finger-picked riffs are as pretty as ever, and new layers of sounds add further nuance to the tracks. While New Leaves still exhibits Kinsella's penchant for self-deprecation, there's a newfound focus on clean slates and new beginnings. The now-married Kinsella has veered away from his previous preoccupation with failed relationships. On 'Never Been Born,' Kinsella sings 'These old bones don't feel so old when I'm home with you.' 'Amnesia And Me' finds Kinsella further musing on his recent domestication: 'Now I know who I am, a housebroken one-woman man.' It's surely unfamiliar territory for Kinsella, but that's not to say there's a shortage of sardonic wit and self-examination on New Leaves. Kinsella sounds fed up on 'Curtain Call.' He confesses: 'People used to pay to watch me sing and play/ But it seems more and more they come to spit in my face/ I'm tired of speaking up and speaking clearly so the idiots in the back can hear me.' While Kinsella seems burdened by the rigors of touring, he finally seems content with his personal life. Past releases felt like a glimpse into the dark rooms of Kinsella's psyche, where New Leaves finds those same rooms a little brighter, as if someone tied back the curtains and cracked the windows, making way for some fresh air and sunlight.

Lou Barlow can be a heartbreaking and visionary balladeer in his own right, but his work in Dinosaur Jr. and Sebadoh prove he can also churn out bracing rock and infectious pop, which is exactly what he does on Goodnight Unknown. The follow-up to his mostly acoustic EMOH, Goodnight Unknown is the return of Barlow as frontman, taking the lead on a batch of solidly built and melodic pop tunes, playing with friends like Imaad Wasif and featuring drums from the Melvins' Dale Crover. Barlow and company recorded the album pretty quickly to give this set a more urgent sound and one that, according to Barlow, is 'a cross between my later work with Folk Implosion and my earlier work with Sebadoh...to my ears, anyway.' Barlow's sound can be hard to pin down, and Goodnight Unknown is another subtle pop twist to add to his lengthy discography.

Having moved to Los Angeles from Holland four years ago to pursue her musical dreams, Jansen self-released her debut EP Trauma in 2007 and has adopted the same approach for this second bite at the cherry.

It's hard to understand why Peter Mulvey isn't better known. His acoustic guitar work is flawless, avoiding folky clichés for a light, jazzy feel that makes his melodies bounce, and his singing is superb, an understated tenor that puts across deep emotion without over-singing. Maybe it's his enunciation that puts people off. You can actually understand every word, while most of the radio-ready pop singer/songwriters in the 21st century try to express emotion by moaning and mumbling their way through a tune, dropping as many melismas into every line as the market will bear. Letters from a Flying Machine is built around spoken word interludes -- letters written to his young nieces and nephews that he never sent. Most are painful to listen to, lacking the grace and lighthearted humor that mark his songwriting. The one letter that doesn't fall flat is 'Vlad the Astrophysicist,' a look at the indifferent nature of the universe through the eyes of a scientist. It's an unnerving bit of prose, implicitly about the impossibility of finding a real connection with other people, and probably not a piece you should play for impressionable children. Thankfully, the songs on the album aren't as heavy-handed, even when they take on weighty subjects. 'Some People' is a wry topical tune that touches on religion, homelessness, and congressional sex scandals with a breezy grace and a refrain that will immediately embed itself in your skull. 'Kids in the Square' addresses the tribulations of the world from another angle, contrasting the messes adults make of their lives with the kids dancing in the rain, still unaware of what faces them in adult live. Mulvey's chiming, inventive fretwork gives the tune an uplifting swing. Mulvey looks through a 'Windshield' to observe the winter with a blue eye and aching heart. Bluesy sustained notes and David Goodrich's slide guitar intensify the tune's frosty feel. 'Dynamite Bill' is a wordy, humorous blues about love and its limitations marked by Mulvey's quicksilver playing and Zak Trojano's minimal percussion. He closes the album with a take of Gershwin's 'Our Love Is Here to Stay,' recorded as if on a cassette machine in an airplane's bathroom, or perhaps as heard over an old-fashioned radio with a rattling speaker. This new collection of songs is not strictly 'soul' but moreso a 50's and 60's rock, rhythm and blues blend. The Rhythm & The Blues is where rock 'n' roll and modern soul started back in the 50's and 60's. It's dedicated to the pioneers and forefathers of modern music, and crosses the gamut from rock to swing to soul, but all songs have that common rhythm and blues thread. The album has again been produced by Don Gehman in L.A (Soul Deep and Soul Deeper) and features some of the best and most qualified musicians and session singers going around). Sleepthief is an American electronic music recording project formed by producer and composer Justin Elswick. Elswick began writing music for the album ten years prior to its release. The album was mixed, mastered, co-produced, and co-arranged by Israel Curtis. Sleepthief's first album, The Dawnseeker, was released in 2006.
Sleepthief is most often compared to musical groups such as Delerium (in its output from the mid-1990s onward) and Balligomingo, which produce emotive, melodic, synthesized music with what is often described as New Age-influenced ethnic characteristics from other cultures. Also similar to these groups is Sleepthief's use of pop music-based song structures with performances by female singers: eleven vocalists contribute to The Dawnseeker, many of whom are established recording artists, and some having worked with the aforementioned groups previously.

Within each person s personal expansive collection of music (or at least within mine), there exists a fragmented, yet meticulously catalogued mental database of corresponding emotions, actions, and memories. There s always that album we play in the dark when we re feeling melancholy. And unless you re ridiculously lucky or make consistently very informed decisions, we all have that album we swear must have been bought in a state of near-unconsciousness, that gets pulled out of a dusty corner when we feel like a good laugh and a little self-abuse. Fortunately for Creede Williams, his debut album Something Borrowed makes its mark by moving around and comfortably nestling itself in a few of the more pleasant categories of mental musical catalogues. In an urge to create the perfect driving mix that complemented the cities he visited, and the feelings and memories associated with each, Williams compiles a consistent ten tracks with upbeat melodies and casual honesty. His Texas roots solidify Something Borrowed with a no-drama southern sincerity that easily lends itself to hours of unintended repetition that are, appropriately, perfect for cruising the highway. More importantly, however, the album digs deeper into a kind of movement that goes further than the traditional road trip. The real heart of Something Borrowed is in the lyrics, in which Williams manages to whip up a perfect blend of nostalgia, regret, freedom, and random hiccups of minor epiphanies. Jackson Square paints a glorious picture of the little moments that can cause pangs of hurt or bouts of extreme happiness within seconds of each other, with turns of phrase such as fifty-five/outstretched arms divide the sky from the ground below . Shoreline captures the frustration of grappling with the confusion of feeling lost in yourself, aided by an almost bitter relationship with San Francisco. On a technical level, Williams influences are clear from the start. California brings unconscious thoughts of Barenaked Ladies, while Fallen gives a significant tribute to James Taylor. Creede also channels a little Adam Duritz in the honest Lately (The End) , picking up a few of Duritz s trademark references to December, a unique but confused unidentified woman, and a troubled relationship with himself. Williams even gets some help from friends, such as Vertical Horizon, who quietly make recognizable appearances in various spots on the album. If Something Borrowed has a flaw, it s that its easy, friendly tunes mask the true honesty of Williams poetic ability. The catchy tracks flow through so quickly that it requires a few good listens to really pick up on the clever verses that really give the album its strength, without getting distracted by the shiny musical exterior. But luckily, the album is so clean, that it s far from an effort to listen the necessary number of times to really get to the real meat of the creation. Although Williams has succeeded in creating a great highway record, his debut promises to morph easily from the personal cruising music genre, to music to think by and ponder over , and back again. --CDreviews.com
There are many things you can't tell about Creede Williams from listening to his second album After the Letters. You can't tell that the Dallas musician learned to play guitar while writing and recording his 2005 debut album Something Borrowed. You can't tell that when he's not touring he works as lawyer in the violent world of professional wrestling. However, in an instant of listening you immediately notice one thing- this is an engaging, genuine and unabashedly upfront artist- and it isn't often that the music of a singer-songwriter can speak so loudly for itself. Known for his self-deprecating humor onstage, Williams has played over 200 shows in the past three years, been selected as a Coca-Cola Artist of the Month, chosen as one of the best eight unsigned singer/songwriters in America, and taken part in an unaired reality TV series that featured the likes of Eric Hutchinson and G-Love. The critically acclaimed debut, Something Borrowed, which featured the talents of the artists behind acts such as Vertical Horizon, Jackopierce and Robin Thicke, displayed an artist discovering an eye for detail and a knack for delivering colorful melodies. Williams' follow-up proves to be an even more ambitious and strongly written work. 'Because I'm not a musician first, the words come first', Williams says. 'I've always written short stories. I typically write a story and look at the words and it never fails that something I've written feels like the start of a song. After the Letters has a pretty clear concept that draws all the songs together. It's what happens in between-between the breakup and the new relationship, or between the lay off and the new job, or between graduation and your first job. It's purgatory. That position between what was and what's going to be....the dreaming and the being.' Influentially speaking, Williams reconnected with some of his earlier favorites. He culled inspiration from R.E.M., Counting Crows, James Taylor and Van Morrison. His goal, he says, was to create something that delivered an uncluttered story in an emotionally honest way. Armed with a massive number of new songs, Williams headed to Nashville where he recorded his new disc on and off over seven months. There, he was joined in the studio by veteran producer Cary Pierce (Jack Ingram, Graham Colton, Jackopierce, Guster) and musicians that included Tommy B ( Prince, Switchfoot, Stevie Wonder), Aaron Sands (Jars of Clays, Toad The Wet Sprocket, Caedman's Call) and Greg Suran (Goo Goo Dolls, Five For Fighting, Jewel ), who helped Williams augment his songs into a collection of '90s-influenced, radio-ready songs that surge with sincerity and catchiness. After the Letters, which shifts from the charming blue-eyed soul of 'Telegirl' to 'Letting You Down' a compelling, emotive duet between Williams and Leigh Nash ( Sixpence None the Richer ), to the subtly twangy 'Every Wrong Turn', encapsulates all the elements of the human experience, distilling the nuanced and subjective nature of our lives into twelve distinct songs. Each track tells its own story, and, in turn, all twelve work together to narrative a larger, cohesive portrait of what it means to be stuck in the interim.

The song, Datura, is a rollicking ode to the hallucinogenic properties of jimson weed but could just as easily be a description of the band itself. On the heels of 2007's Light Poles and Pines, featuring the band's debut single Call and Response - which earned them a coveted spot on Radio & Records Top 100 Americana Artists of 2008; an appearance on Good Morning, America; and attention in USA Today, Paste, and Billboard magazines - comes the band's much-anticipated self titled second album, Or, the Whale is a band that will rock you, make you dance, and maybe even inspire you to contribute to their amazing vocal pyrotechnics - voices everywhere, indeed.

Lost Valentinos have been described by NME as “A skittering shitstorm of punk fury, disco beats and psychedelic excursions, the sonic invention of M83, Can and My Bloody Valentine melding with the panty-poking fun of Wham!, The Pixies and The Human League.”

Vic Chesnutt - At the Cut (2009) (Alternative) (Rapidshare)

Vic Chesnutt is the real deal, a man who lives for music and who has tirelessly deployed his impish, surly, witty, unflinching perspective in hundreds of songs featuring brilliantly unique wordsmithery and a profound playfulness that thumbs its nose at a life of seriously hard knocks. Vic’s prolific writing – chock of full of real irony, wonderful turns of phrase, humour, rage and tenderness, brutal literalism and ornate observation – constitutes a truly original voice and reflects a truly indomitable spirit.
Chesnutt has worked with many collaborators over his twenty-year music career. His first album for Constellation, North Star Deserter (2007), featured the members of Silver Mt. Zion (among other label-affiliated musicians in Constellation’s home town of Montreal) and Fugazi’s Guy Picciotto. USA music magazine Paste ranked this album the best of his numerous collaborative records over the last dozen years. North Star Deserter was highly acclaimed and signaled a true return to form for Vic Chesnutt, but remained criminally overlooked in the USA. A core group of players emerged from this first recording to accompany Vic on two European tours in support of the album: Thierry Amar (bass), Efrim Menuck (guitar), Jessica Moss (violin) and David Payant (drums) all of Silver Mt. Zion, along with Guy Picciotto (guitar). Together with studio members (and occasional live players) Nadia Moss (piano, organ) and Chad Jones (guitar), this same troupe has reunited for Vic’s second Constellation album, once again recorded by Howard Bilerman at Hotel2Tango in Montreal.
At The Cut picks up where North Star Deserter left off, with the explosive opening tune “Coward” displaying all the epic soaring thrust this band is capable of. Vic debuted this song as part of Jem Cohen’s ‘film hallucination’ Empires Of Tin when it was performed live with the touring band at the 2007 Vienna Film Festival. Re-recorded for At The Cut, it certainly does cut to the chase, as Vic bellows “I am a coward” to trigger a massive unison instrumental line, reinforcing the tune’s double-edged opening lyric (and Frank Norris quote) “The courage of the coward – greater than all others”. From this bracing beginning, however, At The Cut quickly changes temperature and temperament, settling into what is arguably the most intimate, pensive and heartbreaking work of Vic Chesnutt’s career. Cowardice, courage, mortality, tenacity, defiance, mourning and memory are its themes. Throughout the album, and even on the two tracks that blister and blast with this rocking band – “Coward” and “Philip Guston” – there is a lyrical intimacy and directness, a searingly raw honesty to Vic’s voice and words, that finds no parallel in his body of work to date.
Side One of At The Cut traces a gorgeous arc. Following the clarion call of “Coward” is “When The Bottom Fell Out”, a classic solo Vic tune, recorded live off the floor, the vocal tethered to the simplest of acoustic guitar lines, the fatalistic lyric delivered steadfast and strong. “Chinaberry Tree” finds the band in a lovely, loose, rollicking swing as Vic hacks away, “throwing myself at the cut / with a force heretofore unknown to me” and belting out the song’s eponymous chorus amidst intertwining lead guitars and violin. “Chain” features one of the album’s strongest arrangements, with piano and guitar figures deployed beautifully to support a fine bit of minimalist, oblique metaphysics from Mr. Chesnutt. “We Hovered With Short Wings” closes the side in a slow burn, with the rhythm section laying down a languorous groove over which Vic, in sweet falsetto, sings one of the finest poems he’s ever penned.
Side Two does not relent. “Philip Guston” hits the reset button – the record’s most angular and snarling tune (and a close contender for album opener) with some great guitar and drum work seesawing against the staccato verse structure. Memory and mortality are the commanding themes for the remainder of the album: “Concord Country Jubilee” is a sweet pastoral childhood reminiscence, “Flirted With You All My Life” a quite literal ode to the dance with death, delivered with a perfect and unaffected mix of exuberance, defiance and insouciance. “It Is What It Is”, as the penultimate tune and the album’s one cascading river of words, has Chesnutt piling one net upon another in a wonderful stream of vainglorious (auto)biography, a first-person testimonial that begins (while also quoting W.H. Auden) “I am a monster like Quasimodo / or Caliban, the natural man / ‘giving wild ripostes to my reflection’” and concludes with a masterfully poetic declaration of secularism “against the looming blackness”. The album closes with “Granny”, which should pretty much tear your heart out; a devastatingly tender and deeply affectionate portrait, without the slightest hint of anything mawkish, clichéd or over-sentimental.
For an album so overtly shaped by ruminations on mortality, by a man from Athens, GA who certainly knows of what he sings (having survived a car accident at age 18 that confined him to a wheelchair and has subjected him to an endless cavalcade of complications, procedures, emergencies and towering medical bills ever since), it is both refreshing and unbelievably heartwarming to hear how Vic Chesnutt sidesteps any of the obvious Southern Gothic tropes, lyrically and musically. No vaulted arches, gaping abysses or burning fields here – no ‘voicing’ of the preacher or the devil, no putting on airs. Vic manages to sing so authentically and wholeheartedly from and about his sense of place (the South, the wheelchair, 21st century America) because he refuses to sentimentalise any of it and rails against his personal fate without bitterness, without apology, with a sardonic and sometimes angry poetics of the passionately humanist and secular variety: wholly framed by the back porch, championing a humble wisdom, a sincere ethics (without moralising) and a natural literateness, certainly permitting a wisecrack or three, but never allowing for anything hackneyed or cornball or fake. We think At The Cut is a bona fide classic by a man better positioned than most to sing it strong and true.

Continuing his meteoric rise, celebrated folk-punk singer-songwriter Frank Turner will release his third studio album, Poetry of the Deed, on Sept. 8, via Epitaph/Xtra Mile. Already a household name in the UK, the acclaimed troubadour has his sights set on winning over US fans with his ardent roots driven acoustic rock and relentless touring.
With the help of Grammy nominated producer Alex Newport (Death Cab For Cutie, At The Drive-In, Two Gallants), Turner captures the essence of his fervent live show with Poetry of the Deed. Powerfully candid and charismatic, Turner's hardcore roots shine through with fiery passion as he embarks on a lyrical journey of life experiences that speak to listeners with great honesty and authenticity.
From the epic country-punk rambler 'The Road,' to the anti-folk manifesto 'Poetry of the Deed,' to the political rants of 'Sons of Liberty' and the rousing punk anthem 'Try This At Home,' Poetry of the Deed establishes Turner as one of the most inspiring and lyrically gifted songwriters of the last few decades.

Evangelista – Prince of Truth (2009) (Post Rock) (Rapidshare)

1. The slayer

3. I lay there in front of me covered in ice
4. You are a jaguar 5. Iris didn't spell
6. Crack teeth
7. On the captain's side
Beginning with her first Constellation release in 2006, Carla Bozulich’s Evangelista project has steadily been gaining recognition for its complex beauty and fierce, raging appeals. Bozulich has been knocking these and many other ideas into form for two decades (Neon Veins, Ethyl Meatplow, The Geraldine Fibbers, Scarnella). Evangelista is the best and the brightest, filled with adventurous risk taking that sometimes whispers and licks, sometimes pulls the listener so close that it is hard to breathe, sometimes screams in ritual satisfaction. A consistent bucking of categorization ensues. When pressed, Carla calls it Gospel Noise.
Evangelista landed on the cover of UK music magazine The Wire in June 2008, following the release of the group’s second album, Hello Voyager (which also made The Wire and several other mags’ year-end lists). Bozulich/Evangelista has also recently appeared at numerous prestigious music festivals, including FIMAV (Musique Actuelle) in Canada, Le Weekend in Scotland and the Ruhrtriennale in Germany.
The new Evangelista album Prince Of Truth stays true to the band’s uncompromising and compelling combination of delicate coaxing love and wicked cathartic awakening sonic voyage. Not so much confessional as ritual/processional and invitational says Bozulich: “inviting the listener to come clean, to defy or just be near people you believe in, to sit down, all of us together and make sense of the fact that there is no logic and perhaps no Truth at the base of anything, that we must open up and up and up because if we do not we are just fish gone belly-up in the stream – there is a Prince inside us that will grow into nothing more or less than an everyday person moving free, armed with the salvation of sound and love.”
Having toured extensively throughout North America and Europe during the year-and-a-half following the release of Hello Voyager, Evangelista has coalesced around a core trio, with Bozulich and bassist Tara Barnes now joined by keyboardist/sound artist Dominic Cramp. Returning to Montreal and the Hotel2Tango studio where the previous two Evangelista records were made, the new album was co-written by the above trio along with several members of their extended Montreal family, most notably Lisa Gamble (who played everything from musical saw to bike wheel). Gamble also occasionally joins the band on tour (as do a wide cast of misfits from around the globe).
With Prince Of Truth, Bozulich has shaped her Evangelista group into something more intense, more committed, more complex and more sonically and compositionally obsessive than ever. Conventional song structure is mostly absent – the pieces are built from an extremely diverse set of sound sources, taking shape through layers of accumulation and juxtaposition, foreground and background, sudden shifts, suspensions and dissolutions – and Carla’s commanding voice and brilliant lyrics.
Opening track “The Slayer” is one of the most spine-tingling songs we’ve heard from Carla (and she’s offered up quite a few over the years). The lyrics testify to a force or persona of terrifying power and ambiguity – “Am I here to watch over you / Am I here to destroy you / Am I here just to think it matters what I do” – the voice cutting through the cauldron of sound circling and dive-bombing around it. “Tremble Dragonfly” follows, a haunted invocation of a “wicked flying thing”, swaddled in a gorgeously stretched and distressed string arrangement punctuated by chimes, gongs, musical saw and autoharp. “I Lay There In Front Of Me Covered In Ice” is marked by a devastating lyric and a stone cold soul organ part by Dominic Cramp. “Iris Didn’t Spell” moans forth with the dual contrabass dissonance of Thierry Amar and Jonah Fortune before breaking into a supple groove anchored by Ches Smith on drums.
“On The Captain’s Side”, which perfectly and bracingly closes the record, is a post-apocalyptic sea shanty of sorts, with lyrics penned by Tara Barnes (who also wrote the voyager-themed lyrics for “Truth Is Dark Like Outer Space” on the band’s previous album). Jessica Catron makes a cameo appearance here, singing lead vocal through a cacophony of Bozulich’s harmonic voices: “The veins in my hands expand anticipating their use / my ship will speed like the light through portals darker than the darkest night…I float in the sea alone as far as the eye can see / for luck always be on the captain’s side.”
Prince Of Truth is also a sort of Pro Tools fantasia wrought from purgatory, not only figuratively and stylistically, but quite literally as well. Initial tracking was scheduled at the Hotel2Tango studio in Montreal, with regular Evangelista collaborators Shahzad Ismaily, Lisa Gamble, Thierry Amar, Nadia Moss and Ches Smith all in attendance. On day two of the sessions, a nasty throat infection Carla had been fighting on a preceding tour evolved into a full-blown medical drama, confining her to bed for the ensuing weeks. The band went on to track the song foundations, along with a pile of extras, outtakes and overdubs, and Bozulich returned to her Los Angeles home with these stacks of tracks digitized from the analog master tapes. Over the next two months, she de- and re-constructed these sessions, adding vocals and rallying additional contributions from Nels Cline, Ezra Buchla, Devin Hoff, Jessica Catron and more.
Sprung from the obsessions of Bozulich’s instinctual, maniacally detail-oriented mind and channeled through the incantatory/seductive/soul persona of the classic chanteuse, Carla and her Evangelista band have made an album of searing and beguiling depth, the spoils of a phenomenal group of musicians occupying an entirely original zone at the intersection of improv, noise, post-industrial and musique concrete, forging an experimental gothic soul music for our impossible times.

Wet Hair - Glass Fountain (2009) (Drone,Experimental) (Hotfile,Mediafire)

The Reed/Garbes duo mainly sticks to their guns, mining the same post-Suicide art-trance vein they perfected on Dream, but with Glass Fountain there’s an added emphasis on the disembodied, oscillator pop mode that Wet Hair often toy with. Fountain’s five tracks include some of the band’s simplest but catchiest songs (“Crucifix In The Waves,” “When The Right Time Comes,” etc), mesmerizing organ melodies over plink-plonky vintage drum machines with weirdo soulful singing and outer space electronics, like an outsider-punk Silver Apples or something. Hard to say exactly what universe Wet Hair are operating in and that’s probably part of why we love it so much. A killer record that gets better each spin.

Throughout their career, M.O.P. have epitomized hardcore hip-hop. Now, after numerous mixtapes and side projects, the firing squad returns with Foundation, their first LP in nine years.
M.O.P.’s Lil’ Fame and Billy Danze waste no time delivering their patented brand of adrenaline-pumping music. With “Crazy,” Fame makes a clear distinction between reality television and the street’s harsh realities, as he spits, “This ain’t making of the band, this is making of the ‘BLAM’!” Never wavering, the duo keep it consistent on “Ghetto,” where over a creeping guitar and a wailing vocal sample they drop more gritty details about their impoverished Brooklyn digs. The angry barbs are not misguided, though—Billy and Fizzy Womack’s relationship is deeper than rap and thoroughly explained on the Statik Selektah–produced “Forever and Always,” an ode to the group’s humble beginnings.
There are, however, a few minor miscues. Like “Make ’Em Clap,” where producer Tailor Made’s staccato drums and organ stabs never really find their groove. And “Riding Thru,” featuring Redman, falters at the hands of a lazily crafted hook, if nothing else. Luckily, “Brooklyn,” a smoky, reggae-infused anthem about the county of Kings puts the project back on its proper footing, as Billy offers assistance to overzealous tourists.
Not many groups maintain an excellence of execution after 15 years in the game, but M.O.P. are far from ordinary. If anything, Fame and Danze sound as hungry as ever, and for fans of that hardcore, Foundation is just one more dose of that raw.

Fabolous - Losos Way (Japan Bonus Tracks) (2009) (Hip Hop) (Rapidshare,Megaupload,Depositfiles,Hotfile,Mediafire)

01. Never Let It Go (Produced By DJ Khalil)
02. Bang Bang (Produced By Sean C & LV)
After nearly one full decade at the absolute pinnacle of the rap game, Desert Storm/Def Jam artist Fabolous will deliver the most personal, confessional album of his career when LOSO'S WAY arrives in the physical and digital marketplace on July 28th. The new album provides an intimate glimpse into the rise of the Brooklyn-born rapper, one of today's most important and controversial players, exploring the perils that come with managing the transition from a street life to one of legitimacy.
Underscoring the autobiographical portrait of LOSO'S WAY is Fab's first long-form video project, a 30-minute film to be released in conjunction with the album. Several trailers from the film have been released, creating a huge buzz for the project online. Known for keeping his personal life separate from his rap career, Fab was inspired by Carlito's Way (Al Pacino), as he told SOHH.com recently: 'I think we had some similarities. Carlito was a street dude trying to make the transition from the streets to something better. That's where I felt I was at....transitioning from the streets to a hip-hop artist.'
In advance of LOSO'S WAY, two singles are building simultaneously at radio: 'Throw It In The Bag' featuring fellow Def Jam artist The-Dream (produced by Tricky Stewart) was #1 Most-Added at Rhythm formats; and 'It's My Time' featuring brand new Def Jam artist Jeremih (produced by the Runners) is currently exploding at the Urban format.

Midlands-formed, London-based, Stricken City are a good old-fashioned indie band, just like they used to make them back in the early to mid-80s. They're a bit C81, that NME cassette you could send away for with coupons and pennies back in 1981, with shades – shards, really, jagged echoes – of female-fronted groups like Young Marble Giants and Delta 5, although they're less arty and abrasive than Raincoats and scratchier and less rhythmic than the Slits. They're also very C86, that mid-80s landmark of sloppy, slapdash, shambling guitar-pop, while the prettily dishevelled Rebekah Raa hiccups and chirrups like indie girls should. There's some oomph to their indie - they put the 'ram' into ramshackle – but it's all very angular and amateurish. 'We're very mistakist,' they say. They leave the faults and fuck-ups in; they're part of their charm.

Southern California quintet Saosin – which consists of Reber, bassist Chris Sorenson, drummer Alex Rodriguez, and guitarists Beau Burchell and Justin Shekoski - is one of the fastest-growing headliners in rock – earning mainstage slots on the Vans Warped Tour, selling out clubs in a flash, going out with heavyweights like AFI, Avenged Sevenfold, My Chemical Romance and Taking Back Sunday and garnering an ocean of fans who’ve downloaded their songs from MySpace over five million times – all before they’ve released a full-length album. The forthcoming album, which will be released in September 2009, is largely selfrecorded, produced and mixed. “We basically built up a rehearsal studio and a big drum tracking room at Hurley and got to learn what would work best in the studio,” says Sorenson.
In January 2009, Saosin began the next phase of recording, working on a handful of tracks at a studio in Malibu, CA with producer Butch Walker (Sevendust, Fall Out Boy, Pink). Once again, with the help of Hurley, they opened up the sessions to fans via a realtime, multi-camera audio/video feed. They emerged with music for three songs and vocals for five. In February they headed back to Orange County, where they produced the remaining vocal tracks at their home studio. Saosin has released two EPs, its self-titled, full-length debut and Come Close, a live CD/DVD set. They’ve toured relentlessly – and while becoming a road warrior is par for the course when you’re in a developing rock band, Saosin has taken it to the extreme.

Canadian metallers THREAT SIGNAL will release their sophomore album, 'Vigilance', on August 28 via Nuclear Blast Records.
Two songs from the album — 'Beyond Recognition' and 'The Beginning Of The End' are available for streaming on the band's MySpace page.
THREAT SIGNAL has just kicked off a headlining tour with THE AGONIST, FLATLINE and THY WILL BE DONE. Dubbed the 'Road to Revision', the run will be followed by another headlining trek this July with THE AUTUMN OFFERING, THE AGONIST and SYBREED. During this tour, THREAT SIGNAL will be debuting material from 'Vigilance'.
Commented vocalist Jon Howard: 'This tour is really special to us because we will be debuting five songs from our new album within an hour-long performance. I'm really excited to see how the fans react to the new material. It's a very solid tour package with THE AGONIST, FLATLINE, and THY WILL BE DONE, so the show is strong from beginning to end. This will be a heavy, brutal tour with lots of drinks and good times! We'll have our camera rolling for a DVD so put on your metal face and come rock out.'
In a recent interview with Spine Language blog, Jon Howard stated about THREAT SIGNAL's decision to play new, as-yet-unreleased material as part of the band's current live performance, 'We feel that we've been playing the same show for too long. We've been playing songs from 'Under Reprisal' for almost five years! The reactions have been amazing so far. Sometimes it feels as if they know the songs already! So with that said we have totally broken the rule. We are playing five songs from the new album, 'Vigilance', and six from 'Under Reprisal'. So you get a good blend of new and old. I think people are craving new shit, so even if they do stand and nod their head, I don't care, I know they are just taking it all in!!'

2009 collaboration between the singer/songwriter and actress/vocalist. Includes eight original compositions by Pete/Scarlett in the spirit of Serge Gainsbourg's recording with Brigitte Bardot. The album re-enacts the tempestuous course of a love affair on the rocks. The album had its genesis in the aftermath of a breakup in 2006. After Yorn was unable to sleep for a week, he finally dozed off, only to wake with a start just minutes later. What had awakened him was a dream. 'I sat up in bed, and the whole thing was in my head, fully formed,' Yorn says, sounding as if he still doesn't quite believe it. 'I suddenly felt like I really needed to make a record in the style of Serge Gainsbourg and Brigitte Bardot. Not that it had to sound like that, but it had to be a guy-and-girl conceptual thing. So then I asked myself, 'Who's Brigitte Bardot today? It's Scarlett Johansson.' Featuring an interpretation of the classic 'I Am the Cosmos' by the late Chris Bell co-founder of Big Star.

This London duo use gritty beats, droning guitars, abstract effects and dreamy vocals to create a soundscape that is arty yet tuneful. They have previously supported TV On The Radio, Florence & The Machine, Crystal Castles and Klaxons.
Milo Cordell is son of 1960s pop producer Denny and runs the Merok label, which has released cutting-edge dance acts Klaxons and Crystal Castles. Robbie Furze is a former guitarist with electro-punk singer Alec Empire and is also a founding member of the band Panic DHH.
To date they have released three singles - Too Young To Love/Crystal Visions (House Anxiety), Velvet and Stop The World (4AD). They are currently recording their debut album at the Electric Ladyland Studios in New York which is set for release after the summer.
Despite only a handful of releases to date, London duo Robbie Furze and
Milo Cordell aka The Big Pink have built up quite a buzz around the
release of their debut album. Their name is a bit misleading - they
have no Band or Bob Dylan-esque qualities to their music but rather mix
80s and 90s shoe-gazer influences with synth beats to produce their own
bold unique sound
Opener Crystal Visions builds slowly with crackling synths to a
pulsating wall of sound and a feedback laced outro, letting you know
exactly what to expect from the rest of the album. The distorted
feedback drenched sound continues on Too Young To Love before a
complete change with upcoming single Dominos. It is the most pop-like
number on the album with an instantly memorable melody and infectious
chorus - this one could well be a mainstream hit
At War With The World is one of many stand out tracks with that
layered, feedback drenched sound that so typifies the band, crooning
vocal and sensitive lyrics. Previous single Velvet is another one
Mixed by Alan Moulder (My Bloody Valentine), his influence is evident
and the result is fantastic. It's a huge number with a catchy melody
underneath soaring vocals, a wall of guitar noise and programmed beats
A Brief History Of Love is a big low tempo ballad that benefits from
guest female vocals to create a mesmerising duet before the album
closes with Countbackwards From Ten another slow burner
And these tempo changes keep you guessing, The Big Pink's music is far
from predictable. It is reminiscent of the best bits of the 90s indie
scene but with the added depth of synths and the wall of guitar
'noise'. A Brief History Of Love is a brilliantly bold debut that would
be an asset to any record collection - it will draw you in further with
every listen

Canada's Scott Orr has been quietly making quiet music for a little while now, having self-released Miles From Today in 2007. The songwriting on Ghost Party though, is likely to elevate Orr to the next level and may even see him pick up a label, if not some decent distribution.
Ghost Party began life when Orr discovered newfound acoustics in his basement as it was being renovated. And where he previously recorded in meticulous silence, this time Orr allowed his environment to contribute to the overall sound. Which is why one can hear a cat at the end of 'Danger', for example.
Musically, Orr shares a similar space as Iron & Wine, Conor Oberst and Nick Drake, with hushed vocals and gentle melodies that waft on the breeze. Like Beam, Oberst & Drake, Orr also knows the power that pop can play within a song, and as such he works hard to find that hook, that special something that lures the listener. This pop sensibility is most evident on the opener 'In Between', and 'Danger' (which sounds a bit like a Ben Gibbard track), whilst tracks like 'Caught In My Dreams' and 'I'm Going to Listen to My Heart' both have strong country undertones - yet palatable for those who don't realise they like the genre.
Some tunes, like 'Ghosts' and 'To Be Loved' entice you like an early morning swim: It's hard to get started, but you enjoy them so much when you get there, you really don't want them to end.
Orr's first album was available as a free download, which may have been a good move as it helped get his name out there. Similarly Ghost Party is available to stream from his website for those that prefer the try before you buy method.

The Black Atlantic is the Groningen (Holland) based acoustic pop band formed around singer and songwriter Geert van der Velde, former frontman for legendary hardcore band Shai Hulud.
The Black Atlantic will be releasing their debut album “Reverence for Fallen Trees” as part of the In A Cabin With international recording series, in September of 2009 (digitally) for free, and in October (physically; vinyl + CD).
In February, 2008, The Black Atlantic contacted the international recording project “In a Cabin With” (IACW) about a possible recording session. IACW were immediately enthusiastic and plans for a late 2008 recording, to take place in a log cabin, were made. The cabin, owned by van der Velde’s in-laws is located in the small town of Saranac Lake, in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains of Upstate New York.
For this recording, drummer Marcel Wolthof was re-enlisted alongside singer-songwriter Kim Janssen on various instruments. Janssen co-wrote some of the songs for the recording and has permanently settled in and joined the band.
The title of the album “Reverence for Fallen Trees” is a metaphor for “honour the dead”, referring to van der Velde’s grandparents, 3 of whom passed away recently in the past year. The album deals with such topics as ‘remembrance’ , ‘grief’, ‘family’, ‘love’, ‘disenchantment’ and ‘overcoming’, eloquently worded and brought to life in natural methaphors and direct references to this period in his family history.
Musically the new songs showcase a much wider variety of instrumentation and willingness to experiment with sounds and soundscapes, and the use of multi-layered vocal harmonies; inspired by such acts as Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes and the Beach Boys. Rhytmically the group has chosen for a much more minimal, percussive approach touring with only a snare drum, floor tom and cymbal.

Much like Iron & Wine or many similar indie outfits, Sea Wolf is the project name of a sole singer/songwriter who drafts in other musicians as the occasion warrants. That singer/songwriter is Alex Church, a California native who looks to local authors like John Steinbeck and Jack London (whose 1904 novel The Sea Wolf provided the band name) for inspiration. Born in the small former gold rush town of Columbia and raised by a musically inclined, peripatetic mother (in his bio, Church claims to have spent a year living in a tent in the French countryside as a child), Church attended the prestigious NYU film school, then settled in Los Angeles and formed the indie rock band Irving in 1998. As one of three songwriters in Irving, Church soon found himself with a clutch of songs that didn't fit the band's dreamy '60s-inspired psych-pop sound. Church and various friends played a handful of Los Angeles gigs as Sea Wolf between 2003 and 2005, when Church made a batch of home recordings that he completed in Seattle with Irving's producer Phil Ek. Signing with the indie label Dangerbird Records, Sea Wolf released their debut EP, Get to the River Before It Runs Too Low, in the spring of 2007, with a full-length album following. To tour behind the record, Church assembled a stable lineup with himself on vocals and guitar, Aaron Robinson on guitar, Lisa Fendelander on keyboards, Theodore Liscinski on bass, Aniela Perry on cello and Byron Reynolds on drums.

Fans of quality folk-punk prepare yourselves for the next top act to hit your stereos – all the way from Australia we are proud to present you with The Go Set. Formed in 2003, the sound of The Go Set is hard to categorize as it encompasses a variety of musical styles. From the traditional celtish sounds, to folk, to seventies punk, lyrically backed with political and social conscious lyrics, avoiding cliches and including their own sense of humour. An explosive cocktail of Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly, mixed with the songwriting style of Billy Bragg. Their new album goes a litlle back to their roots: less balads, more Punk, compared to their previous album A Journey For A Nation. In early 2008 the band hit the European stages for the first time and have left a firm and lasting impression with fans across the continent. A new tour is in the works for June/ July, including some dates in the UK. Watch out for them and enjoy their entertaining show with a cold lager in your hand.

A 2007 EP hinted at the sort of honest, quirky fare Lanae’ Hale, a 24-year-old Florida transplant, had to offer. Now, her first full-length Centricity album, Back & Forth, makes good on that promise as an engaging collection of highly crafted melodic and lyric expressions. Eschewing standard pop cliches, Lanae’ carves out her own unique and personable creative space on the new project, allowing her songs to unfold unexpectedly and with a strong dose of self-revelation born of her own sense of strle.
Tag-team produced by Mark Hammond (Nichole Nordeman, Ashley Tisdale) and Allen Salmon (Seabird, This Beautiful Republic) Back & Forth is constructed with an underlying sense of “before and after.” Some songs reflect the psalmlike intensity of a journey through the darker moments of life, while others celebrate the freedom, hope and redemption that ultimately follows.

Impressed by his mixing gift, Clamaran gained a huge audience and started to be booked for one off parties. But Palace headquarters (Palace in Paris is the NYC equivalent of Studio 54) asked him to run the mythical Gay Tea Dance every Sunday, instead of french icon Laurent Garnier.
In 1992 Clamaran, eager to get involved into production, teamed up with Laurent Pautrat. Their first Production “I’ve got music in me” by 400hz made him one of the most promising french producers. Released on House Trade Records, this track was licensed by BMG France and sold over 100,000 units.

What happens when one American legend takes on 12 American
classics? If that legend is John Fogerty, the simple answer
is musical magic. On The Blue Ridge Rangers Rides Again
Fogerty reinvents such treasures as the Everly Bros.' 'When
Will I Be Loved' (a stunning duet with fellow Rock & Roll
Hall of Famer Bruce Springsteen), Rick Nelson's 'Garden
Party' and John Denver's 'Back Home Again' with uncommon
grace and unbridled zest. As longtime Fogerty fans will
recall, the Blue Ridge Rangers made their first appearance in
1973 when the Grammy winner released an album of classic
covers (including 'Jambalaya' and 'She Still Thinks I Care')
under that moniker. The name was deceptive: the Rangers were
Fogerty and Fogerty alone. He played all the instruments
including drums. The thought of revisiting the Blue Ridge
Rangers as a vehicle to create another set of beloved covers
has never been far from Fogerty's mind. 'I thought about it
at least once a month,' he says. 'I told myself if I ever get
to do this again, I'm going to have real guys playing; I'd
find the best guys I could and have fun and so that's what
happened this time.' Indeed, on The Blue Ridge Rangers Rides
Again, Fogerty surrounds himself with such top-flight
musicians as Buddy Miller (guitar), Greg Leisz (pedal and lap
steel, mandolin and dobro), Jason Mowery (fiddle, mandolin
and dobro) and Kenny Aronoff (drums). They circle and entwine
each other in joyous musical call and responses (complete
with hooting and hollering), weaving in and out of each song
Call it a country record if you must, but it's really the
sound of America. And the sound of Fogerty: real instruments
real talent. No artifice. Fogerty, who arranged and produced
the set, encouraged his fellow musicians to bring their own
ideas to the songs. The album's great live feel comes from
the fact that the basic tracks were recorded in three or four
takes over a seven-day period. Then, the players hung out in
the studio during each other's overdubs, egging on their
compatriots. 'It seemed to be a very rewarding way to make
music,' Fogerty says. 'I really believed in the songs and the
vibe. There was not really a preconceived notion. There [was]
an openness, but the thing has to ring true to how I feel.'
Nowhere is that openness more evident than on 1964's 'Haunted
House.' Fogerty & Co. take what many considered a novelty
song made famous by Jumpin' Gene Simmons about an alien and
turn it into a full-on rave-up. 'It was my idea that I wanted
it to basically be a country jam,' he says. 'It was a vehicle
to have the musicians trade verses. This was important to me;
to hear that fun.' And therein lies another key to the
album's unforced grace. When recording cover songs, it may be
tempting to labor over whether to remain faithful to the
original or to morph the song into a new creation, Fogerty
discarded any such worries and simply went with his gut. 'If
when I get done with a particular song and I don't have any
more questions, I'm pretty sure it's done,' he plainly says
While it may seem odd this member of the Songwriters Hall of
Fame and author of such iconic tunes as 'Proud Mary,' 'Bad
Moon Rising,' 'Born on the Bayou,' 'Fortunate Son' and
'Who'll Stop the Rain,' would turn to tunes penned by others
remember that he is also a great lover of music. (The lone
Fogerty composition on the set is the swampy 'Change in the
Weather,' originally on 1986's Eye of the Zombie.) Many of
the songs have been Fogerty favorites for decades and have
as he puts it, 'become part of my DNA.' Some selections, such
as 'When Will I Be Loved' and 'Moody River,' go back to his
adolescence. Many, such as John Prine's 'Paradise' and John
Denver's 'Back Home Again,' are from revered contemporaries
'I Don't Care (Just As Long As You Love Me)' is a salute to
one of his musical heroes, Buck Owens, and his groundbreaking
guitarist and Buckaroos' leader Don Rich. Others were last
minute additions. Miller brought 'Fallin', Fallin', Fallin'
to Fogerty's attention while the band was in the studio in
Los Angeles. 'I'm not sure if I've ever heard that one
before,' Fogerty says, 'but it was delightful and was a good
vehicle to bring the band together with that sort of western
swing.' The criterion for inclusion on the album was a
deceptively simple one: 'If I'm allowed to just get up with a
bunch of people in a country bar somewhere, these are the
songs I'll do,' Fogerty says. 'There was some talk in the
beginning about having some [theme]; personally, I wasn't
buying into that. To me, the common thread is really about
presenting a certain feeling about music.' Otherwise, he
says, the pressure of fitting tunes into a preselected theme
weighs down the process 'like bowling balls in your
knapsack.' The song most likely to surprise listeners is a
remake of Pat Boone's last No. 1 in 1961, the unlikely murder
ballad 'Moody River.' 'I can imagine Pete Seeger singing it
There are so many things to sink your teeth into,' Fogerty
says. 'By the way, Pat sings his butt off. I think our
version is far more eerie sounding than Pat was allowed to
do. 'Garden Party,' a song by another former teen idol, holds
special significance for Fogerty, who inducted Nelson, who
died in 1985, into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. Like
Nelson, Fogerty has remained true to himself and his music
even when doing so was extremely painful. 'I'm the guy who
didn't sing his own songs for 25 years because, basically
those songs had been taken away from me and also used in ways
I really disagreed with,' Fogerty says, referring to his
decades-long battle with Saul Zaentz over his publishing
'Therefore, I could really identify with a guy saying, 'If
memories were all I sang, I'd rather drive a truck.' The
Eagles' Don Henley, a fan of the first Blue Ridge Rangers
album, and Timothy B. Schmit provide sumptuous harmonies on
'Garden Party.' 'The Eagles were born to sing those parts,'
Fogerty says. 'We were all fans.' The most personal song for
Fogerty is Denver's 'Back Home Again.' The message of
returning to a loved one's arms after a journey 'involves [my
wife] Julie and my emotions towards her,' he says. Plus, he's
a tremendous Denver fan. Fogerty vividly recalls halting an
interview during the 1985's Farm Aid to hear Denver perform
However, Denver's angelic voice haunted him when he thought
about cutting the track: that is until Julie convinced him to
try. 'I thought I didn't have a prayer of doing it justice
but Julie really kept insisting; she kept empowering me and
enabling me.I was terrified of it. I don't sound like John
Denver. Somehow I found another way to sound alright.' The
album closes with Fogerty and Springsteen's yearning take on
'When Will I Be Loved,' marking the first time the two
legends and longtime admirers of each other have recorded
together. 'I've wanted to do something with Bruce forever
probably 20-some odd years,' Fogerty says of his tour mate on
the Vote for Change outing. Fogerty traveled to Springsteen's
New Jersey home to record the Boss's part. 'The hardest part
was it was in a very high range for Bruce's voice, but he got
it done. He didn't complain; he didn't wimp out. It sounds
great. It was remarkable how much of a chance he would take.'
But in the end, as Fogerty notes, whether he was recording
with Springsteen or the Eagles or with the band, when it came
to making The Blue Ridge Rangers Rides Again, 'I just sing my
own style.' And no one does that better than John Fogerty

In order to drive that point home harder, the band has named its 12th studio album God & Guns, as if to say, 'This album's only intended for real Americans.' The German outfit EVERLAUNCH already is around since 1999, but including their new one ‘Suburban Grace’ has just released two albums thus far.
This 4-piece Rotenburg/Ger. based band proves best that their electrifying independent rock might be the next big thing in Germany. Guitar-walls-of-sound and up-beat drums, interwoven with sparkling vocals full of fragile melancholy. Everlaunch combine straight energy with the beauty of autumn-leaves. Up to now, more than 250 national and international shows have been played, including two G/A/S headline tours as well as various sets of dates in support of artists such as OASIS, HARD-FI, LOUIS XIV, MATT COSTA, GLASVEGAS, BLACKMAIL only to name a few. The band also gave a number of notable mainstage festival performances, such as Hurricane Festival (GER.) or Festival Rockowy in Poland. Eventually, the bands music worked its way through various European Radio stations, and not to anyone’s surprise, music magazine 'Sound' declared them to be 'the best newcomers of the year', while “Visions” praised their “intoxicating Indie-Pop-Rock”. Moreover, even legendary MTV rock mastermind Markus Kavka euphorically stated “that combination of punch and drive in the low end with lots of room for emotion and feeling at the same time, gives me thrills. Everlaunch seriously touches me. I hardly can say anything better about music.” Undoubtedly, the tracks are set to go stratospheric. But convince yourself! Everlaunch might easily be your cup of tea.

Europe sold more than 12 million albums worldwide. The band has achieved two top 20 albums 'The Final Countdown' (1986) and 'Out of This World' (1988) and two top 10 singles ('The Final Countdown' and 'Carrie') on the US Billboard Charts.
At the peak of their career in 1986 John Norum left the band and was replaced by Kee Marcello. After ten years of living, recording, and touring together, Europe decided to take a break at the end of the 1992 tour and announced the band had split. They reunited temporarily for a one-off performance in Stockholm on New Year`s Eve 1999 and finally announced an official reunion in 2003 with the original guitarist John Norum. Since then Europe released two albums, 'Start from the Dark' and 'Secret Society'.
The band is performing sold out gigs all over the world, gaining the respect of hard rock purists and metal fans thanks to impeccable performances.

The fourth studio album from 4-piece indie rock band from Wakefield, West Yorkshire .In 2008, Q magazine described the band as 'The biggest cult band in the UK'.
The first Cribs record to feature the lead guitar playing of former Smith Johnny Marr alongside the three redoubtable Jarman brothers, Ignore The Ignorant balances a slightly fuller sound with the familiar choppy riffs and rabble-rousing choruses of old. To sest the Cribs’ fourth long-player has brought a new maturity to their sound would be to threaten the worst--after all, a good deal of the appeal of songs like 'We Were Aborted' and the souped-up Sonic Youth clatter of 'City Of Bugs' lies in their wide-eyed juvenilia and barely-contained bursts of guitar dissonance. But it’s true that some of the finest moments here find The Cribs showing off a newly nuanced, reflective side. 'Last Year’s Snow' is a wistful number that sees a cracked-voiced Ryan Jarman imploring 'I want to think you won’t/Remember me like last year’s snow' over a sparkling Marr lead, while the title track balances romping drums and reverb-soaked guitars with a passionate and heartfelt anti-racist message that sees the band nail their colours to the mast with style.

The debut record from this California based singer/songwriter is full of emotion and honesty. There is something for everyone on this disc. Acoustic guitar driven, this record is full of beautifully crafted songs with simple yet memorable melodies.
After spending most of the 90’s either playing in bands or doing solo/acoustic gigs in and around the southeast, Robert finally decided to take the plunge and purchase his own recording equipment in order to record/produce the band he was in at the time.
Through all the craziness and countless hours in the studio, Robert never stopped writing his own songs. Finally in 2007, he made the decision to leave the comfort of the major label studio gigs and focus on producing his own record. He started going back through the many songs he had written over the years and chose 11 that he thought worked well together . Along the way, Robert was hired to write and record the music for a short film. While doing this he also wrote and recorded a song for the end credits and decided that this would be a perfect cap for his record. This song, titled “The Hunger” would become the bonus track on the cd.

Colbie Caillat - Begin Again (Reggae Version) CDS (Australian Bonus) (2009) (Pop) (Zshare,Mediafire)

1. Begin Again (Reggae Version)
Last time around, Colbie Caillat was feeling 'Bubbly,' and the entire pop world seemed to want a sip. But this time, effervescence flirts with explosiveness. For her sophomore album, Breakthrough, Colbie has shaken up her sound, bringing in a wider array of producers and players, and significantly picking up the tempo at times from her debut effort's signature ballads. So keep an eye on those carbonation levels: champagne corks may fly.
You'd be hard-pressed to consider an album as accomplished and successful as Coco an accident, yet that's almost what Caillat's 2007 freshman release was. The sudden mania it created at radio and retail 'was a surprise for me,' Caillat says, 'because I hadn't really been in this business yet. I hadn't been doing shows. I wasn't trying to get signed. I just was this girl who wrote songs and put them up on MySpace.' By the time Coco was released to stores, 'Bubbly' was already enough of an airplay sensation that the album debuted at No. 5. The massive success of a second single, 'Realize,' helped push the album to over 2 million shipments, in addition to almost 6 million individual digital tracks that were sold. 'It all just happened naturally,' says Caillat--'and now I have to keep up with it.'
The making of Breakthrough was far more purposeful than the ramshackle sessions that became Caillat's first album. Whatever might have been lost in the way of charming naiveté is more than made up for with greater experience and heightened maturity. 'When I found out I had six months to make this album it was so exciting, because my favorite part is being in the studio and having a chance to get it right. '
'We tried different versions of a lot of the songs--some raw and acoustic; some with lots of harmonies and others with 20 more instruments than needed to be there--just to see which version sounded best. We ended up having a lot of variety.' But for all this diversification, there's at least one carry-over and constant: the front-and-center intimacy of Caillat's vocals, which fans already relate to coming through their ear buds like the voice of a warm and trusted friend.
Production credits for Breakthrough were split between two new helmers. One is hitmaker John Shanks, who's particularly known for his work with strong female artists like Kelly Clarkson, Sheryl Crow, Melissa Etheridge, Alanis Morissette, and the Wreckers. The other new guy behind the boards is Ken Caillat, most renowned for his work on one of the top-selling albums of all time, Fleetwood Mac's Rumours... and also, not insignificantly, for being Colbie's father. Bringing things full circle, the new album was recorded at Village Recorders in West L.A., where Ken Caillat met his future wife and Colbie's mother-to-be when they were both working there during the making of Tusk.
Both John Shanks and Ken Caillat recorded basic tracks with a band playing live in the studio while Colbie sang along in the vocal booth. Beyond that similar approach to the early sessions, though, their approaches diverged. 'My dad's recording is very organic and reveals the rawness and vulnerability in a song,' she says. 'And John Shanks is a great pop producer. His songs are perfect for radio.'
'On this record, Caillat continues, 'I was able to contribute a lot more of my production ideas into the recording. I had a better sense of how I know the songs should sound and feel, and what instruments should be added or taken away from them. Because I didn't get to do that on Coco, to really be able to make these songs completely my own was a special experience for me.'
No one wanted to fix what wasn't broken about Coco, of course. At this time in music-business age where new stars aren't even being added to the firmament anymore, Caillat's success was as close to overnight as it gets. Two years after its July 2007 release, the debut is still in the top 100, and stands as the 12th biggest selling digital album of all time. 'Bubbly' is the 21st best selling digital track ever, with sales of more than 2.8 million, and was a No. 1 smash at Hot AC radio for 19 weeks and AC for 17. The music videos for the first album's songs were streamed over 22 million times. 'Bubbly' was named song of the year at the last BMI Awards, and Colbie tied for artist of the year, for that song and 'Realize.' She was named the winner of Billboard's Rising Star award, too, on top of nominations for the American Music Awards and Teen Choice Awards. If the bubble ain't broke, don't pop it, right?
Coming off such rare and covetable success, expanding the sonic palette beyond the mostly acoustic base of Coco for the new album wasn't undertaken lightly. 'I didn't want to stray too far too fast from what my fans are used to from me,' she says. 'But I did want to grow and experiment and work with different people. I searched for the right balance.'
Caillat expanded her circle of co-writers as well as producers, sitting down to work with hitcrafter-turned-Idolmaker Kara DioGuardia (who helped write three tracks, including 'Begin Again') and Rick Nowels, who says, 'I've worked with some really good writers--Madonna, Dido, Nelly Furtado, Jewel--and I'm just really impressed with Colbie's songwriting. She's got her own voice and lyrical and melodic point of view; she's what I call a natural. And she's a proper singer-songwriter, which is a breath of fresh air today. I think everybody responds to strong songs sung emotionally, and everybody responds to real.'
On Breakthrough, the emotional highs are higher, and the lows arguably lower. 'All the songs are definitely about the roller coaster of being in a relationship--happy, sad, breaking up, falling in love, just the whole cycle of it,' she says. At the crest of this coaster, there's the first single, 'Falling for You,' which might be described as wearing its heart on its sleeve, if the tune's upbeat feel didn't conjure a kind of summer sleevelessness. 'I had gone out on this `friends' date, and I realized I started liking him more than I thought I did,' Caillat explains. 'I was on cloud nine over this guy, thinking I was falling for him, so I wrote about everything we did hanging out the day before.' Think 'Bubbly' squared and gone to the beach.
But, in keeping with that coaster analogy, the album doesn't lack for romantic free-falls. 'A lot of the songs from both Coco and the new album are about the same poor guy that I keep torturing in some way,' she laughs. Knowing that he was more invested in the relationship than she was, she's written a number of songs from this boyfriend's point of view--including the hopeful 'Realize' on the last album and the resigned but brave 'Fearless' on this one. 'The song `Fearless' is sung by someone who's having their heart broken--but I really haven't been broken-hearted yet, so that song was me kind of switching it around from his perspective. I wrote it as him saying to me that he's fearless and this won't damage him for future relationships. The opening lines are, `It that's the way you love? You've got to learn so much.' And I really do have a lot to learn about love.
'All the songs have a different twist,' Caillat continues. 'It may not be exactly what happened to me, but it's happened in a situation that I've learned from or been watching. I wrote `Breaking At the Cracks' about one of my parents' friends who I've known my entire life. Everything in her life came crashing down on her at the same time: her mother died, her dogs died, then her father died, and finally her husband left her. I was on tour and my heart was hurting for her. So I started playing my guitar and crying while I was singing, imagining what it would take to get yourself out of that depression and get your life back together. That was another song that had nothing to do with me, but I was expressing someone else's emotions, like I was sending a message to the world for them.'
Having just been a fan herself until recently, Caillat thinks about how her most emotional songs will click with her own followers. 'Because I know a Coldplay song like `Fix You,' when I'm having a bad day, I can put it on and just pour my heart out--and then five minutes later, I'm ready for a smile again. So I want to have the perfect mixture of having those kinds of songs that you can cry to when you've had a horrible day, and these upbeat, fun songs you can listen to at the beach or when you're driving.'
Breakthrough's title track is another ruminative song about a friend's experience--in this case, that of Colbie's best pal, who has long been estranged from her father and continues to desperately desire a breakthrough in her relationship with him. But when Caillat applied the title to the album, it took on a different, more celebrative, strictly personal meaning.
'I'm 24, and I'm still trying to grow up as a woman and find out who I am and be comfortable in my own skin,' she says. 'I had gone through this very hard time where I was really down on myself, and I just kind of wanted to take the easy route and drop everything hard that was getting in my way. And I realized I had to step up and get past that. It took me a while, but I did finally break through my fears and insecurities. And that's why I felt that that would be a great album title, especially for my younger fans.'
A newly minted star who's still discovering her boundaries, Caillat tries t to stay open and even vulnerable. 'You keep your guard up with some of the people that you meet. But I also think that fans should know who you are, and why be afraid of it? It's like that feeling you get when you see someone on YouTube with no makeup on or acting silly--whatever it is that you normally do--and it's like `Oh, they're doing it too, and it's okay, we can be who we are.' You just have to remind yourself not to hide what you do and who you are, because people like seeing that.'
That's something Caillat clearly hasn't forgotten with this bigger, better, and even more intimate album. Finding out that increased amplitude and heightened transparency aren't mutually exclusive after all--that's the stuff that true bust outs are made of.
'Breakthrough' is the follow up record to the highly successful debut release, 'Coco', by Colbie.

Amish is pleased to announce the release of Theo Angell's Tenebrae (AMI-030). Tenebrae is Theo's fourth long-player and second with Amish (also see Dearly Beloved, [AMI-025]). Theo grew up in rural Oregon, was home-schooled along with his siblings by his minister father, which provided him little exposure to mainstream pop culture; the tunes on Tenebrae reflect these conditions, documenting both a reverence for and rebellion against isolation and spiritual absolutes. To that end, the title song, which is the Latin word for shadows, references a religious ceremony that involves the extinguishing of candles and a slamming of the book in advance of holy week. The album’s song-cycle reworks various primitive musical forms (tent revival, folk, psych, fill-in-the-blank with wildly counter-cultural outsider artist) to new and celebratory ends, twisting these styles into a unique brand of folk-psychedelia. For this outing, the Tabernacle Hillside Singers include, among others, Matt Valentine, P.G. Six, Tom Greenwood, Samara Lubelski and Tara Jane O'Neil. Tenebrae highlights again Theo’s unique poly-vocal pyrotechnics and will no doubt prove to be one of the most beautiful records of the year.
There are great sci-fi stories in the flesh of underground music, and Theo Angell is a monstrous storyteller—there can be no single universe to slay or streamline his genius. He cannot be contained within the medium, his voice becomes a giant amidst the twin peaks of yr speakers. Boasting an impressive amalgam of the sonic pH factor of the Pacific Northwest, sacred harmony singing/arranging and an extremely erudite upgrade on modern folk forms, Theo Angell's Tenebrae resonates deep in the annals of sonic architecture, the next step, or second tier, of the Cecil Sharp house. This addition is more like a modal bathysphere with a teleport than any kinda arcane 'in the ground pool,' tho' there is plenty here for one to deep one’s inner ear within the waters of tradition.
I first 'heard' Angell's music when he was part of the Hall Of Fame triad, his tonal shards along with 'headphones as space helmet wireless mic' never ceased to astound and it was his harmonic juxtapostions that were always a standout force in their live sets. On record that unit boasted great prowess with effortless forays into instrumental urban wormholes and pastoral greenspace and here on Tenebrae the same accents can be found, but far more “21st century” in both the production, depth of field and, most importantly, the songwriting. The vocals are extraordinary, coming across with a warm reediness conjuring up the colloquial plaintiveness of Washington Phillips crossed with a more exploratory Willie Nelson cast in acid folk modes...and this IS the real psych folk, transportive with deep attention to sonic detail and with an equally legit centrifuge of tonal color. It is as if Tenebrae refracted the early music of John Dowland and transported it thru a space age, spaced out choral family. 'The family' is a solid approach here, Theo sings of various culture hordes, implements his own cult of musicians (for this aural message, the Tabernacle Hillside Singers include, among others, Matt Valentine, P.G. Six, Tom Greenwood and Samara Lubelski), and sounds himself like a harmony machine from a future wave. Obviously in the latter is where his impeccable vocal style emerges, you simply have to live this sorta colloquial song in order to sing it and Theo is the pure voice of lost America jamming with the embers of tradition. This is no small feat, and yet the familiars are so potent in his tonal magic that you feel free and yet anchored to pure folk song. This is where he darks the sun of the zeitgeist of strum and hum silver spoon folkies and stands alive as the alchemical metal. The towering offspring within Tenebrae are all light and dark, as blinding as long lost harmony from suntones rebirthed as illuminating forms in the folk vernacular. This is heady stuff, but what I found most rewarding is that it also works as an aural massage, something you want to keep playing back, perfect alongside those fave rotations real slow in the glow from the window, everything so slow when this kinda shine flows.

Terri Lynn Sauson (born August 5, 1968 in Montreal, Quebec), known professionally as Terri Clark, is a Canadian country music artist who has had success in both Canada and the United States. Signed to Mercury Records in 1995, she released her self-titled debut that year. Both it and its two follow-ups, 1996's Just the Same and 1998's How I Feel, were certified platinum in both countries, and produced several Top Ten country hits.
Her fourth album, 2000's Fearless, though certified gold in Canada, was not as successful in the U.S., producing no Top 10 hits. Pain to Kill from 2003 restored her chart momentum in the U.S. with 'I Just Wanna Be Mad' and 'I Wanna Do It All', while a 2004 greatest hits album produced the Number One 'Girls Lie Too'. A non-album single, 'The World Needs a Drink', and the 2006 album Life Goes On were her last releases for Mercury before she signed to BNA Records in 2007. There, she released the singles 'Dirty Girl' and 'In My Next Life'. Although the latter went to Number One in Canada, she has not released an album for BNA.
Clark's albums have accounted for more than twenty singles, including six Number Ones. 'If I Were You', 'Poor Poor Pitiful Me', 'Emotional Girl' and 'In My Next Life' all topped the country charts in Canada, 'Girls Lie Too' reached Number One only in the U.S., and 'You're Easy on the Eyes' was a Number One in both countries.

HAPPINESS AND ALL OTHER THINGS finds the group sticking to the plan, delivering another set of earthy, heart-on-the-sleeve, country-tinged bar rock that often sounds like Bob Seger's 'Turn the Page' come to life as a band. On songs such as the jangly, Smithereens-meets-Poco-ish 'To Find My Love' and the storming twang-fest '51 Pieces' the band is loose and spirited, playing its music with an offhand confidence born from years of rocking the highways and byways of America.

Only Built 4 Cuban Linx is a Hip-Hop classic that would serve as binoculars for not only how the general public would view Hip-Hop artists, but also and more importantly, how Hip-Hop artists would view themselves Raekwon has influenced many of the Hip-Hop aficionado’s such as Wyclef, Outkast, The Game, Mobb Deep, Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Eminem, The Lox and the late great Big Pun. Never before had the game seen the flashy swagger, coupled with the Mafioso undertones that so eloquently fit, along with the use of numerous aliases by an artist, the unprecedented skits, the Staten Island slang and the verbal techniques that Raekwon The Chef so effortlessly demonstrated in the Platinum classic album that would withstand the test of time. By possessing these rare qualities and Iron Chef credentials, the Brooklyn born “Shaolin” bred MC became one of the most versatile Hip-Hop artists that the industry has ever seen and considered by many as one of the Greatest MC’s Of All Time. Much like the career of one of his favorite artists, Marvin Gaye,Raekwon not only appeals to the male dominated street community but he also possesses the unique ability to attract a huge female following. The hoods all across America have been craving for it, the streets have been starving, and now the country is famished for the release of Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Part II (The Purple Tape).

It is amazing how far the outer boundaries psychedelic music have
spread over the past forty three years. At this point, unless you're
listening to something pretty lame, psychedelic music has burrowed
itself in just about every corner of rock'n'roll music, from the
raggedness of Roky Erickson back in the mid-60s to the meandering fuzz
drone of the more contemporary acts like Wooden Shjips. When an act
comes along such as Gary War that seems to conjure the ever-changing
zeitgeist of psychedelia out of the ether, it's remarkable. His songs
not only pay homage to the bands that have brought us to these
crossroads over the past half of a decade, but they also seem to walk
us through a sound scape of styles, and in the process, Gary War carved
out his spot in the ageless catalog of psychedelic music
Gary War, the mysterious upstart from Brooklyn, NY has just released
his debut LP this winter on SHDWPLY/DISARO Records. Playing with vast
sweeping echoes, softly sung lyrics, and infusing sonic textures
through synth-driven overtures, Gary War's album, New Raytheonport
takes us through the often banal sonics of the psychedelic form with a
fresh take on what seems at first, an aggregate of the past couple of
decades of drug-influenced music, and drops us dead center, at the
doorstep to La La Land. His tonal insobriety, from one song to the next
is a true sign of the times, where artists are driven to explore
different avenues, melding genres, vocal styles and instrumentation to
arrive somewhere new, all the while taking the listener along for the
ride. Pulling from influences that hold as much up to Chrome as they do
Syd Barret, Gary War is able to wrangle them from every corner, and he
even covers The Alan Parsons Project without sounding misguided,or a
late arriving hippie on a hotbox high. Instead, Gary War creates a
sound that wisps through the knobby branches of the past and
sumptuously uproots our notions of the boundaries of psychedelia

The Avett Brothers are a folk-rock band from Concord, North Carolina. The band is made up of two brothers, Seth Avett and Scott Avett, who play the guitar and banjo respectively, and Bob Crawford who plays the stand-up bass. They are often joined on tour by cellist Joe Kwon. Risen from the ashes of Seth and Scott's former rock band Nemo, The Avett Brothers combine bluegrass, country, punk, pop melodies, folk, rock and roll, honky tonk, and ragtime to produce a sound described by the San Francisco Chronicle as having the 'Heavy sadness of Townes Van Zandt, the light pop concision of Buddy Holly, the tuneful jangle of the Beatles, the raw energy of the Ramones.' The group itself eschews labels, feeling that 'none would do the music the justice. It's simply left up to each person to extract his or her own account from the Avetts' music.'
Their live performances showcase their use of three-part harmony and southern rock feel, and are admired for being intense, energetic, and soulful. In the past year, The Avett Brothers have gone from relative unknowns to the poster children of a brand new and rapidly growing genre of American music, described by critics and fans as 'indie roots', 'folk-punk', or 'grungegrass'.

2009 compilation from the Indie Pop veterans. The shiny pop centerpiece of the famed Elephant 6 collective, The Apples In Stereo was born of Robert Schneider's infatuation with recording and his near-pathological compulsion to write the perfect Pop song. Citing Pet Sounds-era Beach Boys as their root text a decade before it was en vogue, Schneider and former and future band members used their basement-D.I.Y. beginnings as a launching pad into a kaleidoscopic galaxy of sound. Constantly mutating from debut album Fun Trick Noisemaker through recent opus New Magnetic Wonder, that galaxy has expanded from 4-track recordings made in Schneider's bedroom to 100-track sonic experiments complete with new musical scales. Collecting the Apples' most well-known songs, #1 Hits Explosion reminds us that Pop music is the art of the song, the art of sounds assembled in a pattern designed to give joy. For over fifteen years The Apples in stereo have taught us that three minutes can change your life. #1 Hits Explosion will make sure we don't forget it.

As 2009 began, Port O'Brien started to prepare songs for what was to become Threadbare. What started as a light-hearted and loose effort quickly turned into a dense, introspective work following the tragic loss of Cambria's younger brother. They started recording at their friend Jason Quever of Papercuts' living room studio in San Francisco. The songs were given a certain warmth and intimacy that couldn't be achieved in a larger space. The sense of comfort they found gave them the ability to fully realize the weight of the songs. 'In the Meantime' explores the desire for contentment in tumultuous times. 'High Without the Hope' bookends the album, illuminating the emotion and sense of loss that was felt throughout the recording process.
After spending weeks recording with Jason, the band felt they could work in a more open space. They worked on the more celebratory and rhythmic songs in Los Angeles with Aaron Espinoza of Earlimart at the Ship recording studio. 'My Will is Good' and 'Oslo Campfire' describe the liberation that follows in the wake of making active changes in one's life following tragedy.
These sessions create Threadbare. Its become somewhat of a two sided record with dark, haunting, and at times meditative songs paired up with the untiring, somewhat aggressive and punchy anthems that Port O'Brien is becoming known for. The last few years have seen many adventures for the band. The creation of this record came with continuing changes both within the band personally, and sonically. Port O'Brien will continue to evolve. In the meantime, Threadbare stands as another mark this young band is leaving.

Not that The Love Willows doesn't speak to young adults. In fact, most of Hey! Hey! tracks the evolution of their own relationship. 'It's all about fetishes, love and hate,' says Hope. 'It's a product of what we've gone through as a couple, the battles and the glories, everything that's happened in the past few years.' The accessibility of their songs also belies their inventiveness and, oftentimes, their subtle sophistication. 'I feel like we bring something different to the table,' says Ryan, who produced and engineered the album. The pair recorded Hey! Hey! in the attic studio of Ryan's parents' home outside of Atlanta, with Ryan playing every instrument and both of them songwriting. The tunes are brightly colored - much like Hope and Ryan when they perform live, with swaths of neon yellows, pinks and greens adorning their clothes and gear. The first single, 'Falling Faster,' is mid-tempo romantic narrative; 'A Day in My Life' reveals their sly complexity, with Hope's enthusiastic vocals layered over sonic themes which embrace pop conventions as they tip a hat to both Irving Berlin and Brian Setzer. 'Strut My Stuff,' featured on the season finale of 'The Real World: Hollywood,' is a quirky tune with a music-box riff throughout, while 'Shoes,' a tribute to soul over soles, is equal pop and polka. Other tracks are more straight-ahead, from the punchy 'Gotta Make You Mine' to the encouragement of 'Keep Your Head Up.' Hope Partlow was born near Memphis and grew up on her dad's collection of country music: from Jim Reeves to Patsy Cline. She was six when she did her first paying gig, earning $25 for singing Johnny Cash's 'Folsom Prison Blues.' At sixteen she saw the release of her first solo album through Virgin Records and toured with the likes of Jesse McCartney, but an executive shake-up at Virgin sent her back to square one. Ryan Wilson grew up in Atlanta with a variety of pop/rock influences, from classic (The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Queen, ELO) to modern (Weezer, Jellyfish, Jimmy Eat World, The Format). He played in bands in and around Atlanta until auditioning as a guitarist for Hope's touring band a half-dozen years back. The admiration was mutual - and immediate. 'I saw his curly hair from behind, and I thought, `He's cute, I hope he can play,' and he was awesome,' says Hope. 'When I first saw her, I was like, `This could be trouble,' Ryan recalls. 'And when I heard her sing... I never heard a vocal like that live and in person. I was like, `Wow, that's real, raw talent.' Hope moved in to Ryan's parent's attic where he began courting her by building a recording studio. In lieu of college life, they began writing songs together with the vow to do things their way, making music that they felt. Decca Records felt it, too, signing the duo on the spot after the label's first listen to their demos. 'I feel like everything has happened for a reason and we're getting closer and closer to that reason,' says Hope. 'I feel like people are so ready for something new.' Whether new or maybe just fun, it's all fine for The Love Willows. Hey! Hey!
An Atlanta duo that wants young audiences to have fun, singer Hope Partlow and guitarist/vocalist Ryan Wilson have crafted a buoyant debut album, Hey! Hey! that is unabashedly upbeat. You might even smell the cotton candy in this collection of enjoyable pop/rockabilly tunes, like spinning through an amusement park where childlike pleasures can be found in even the simplest of rides.

Evacuate the Dancefloor is the third studio album released by German dance act Cascada. It was released in the United Kingdom on July 6, 2009, a week after the lead single 'Evacuate the Dancefloor'.
With the release of their first single 'Evacuate the Dancefloor', people heard their sound change toward modern electropop. Cascada's lead singer Natalie Horler explained that 'You do evolve and progress and we're very proud of what's come of it.' trying to distance themselves from Lady Gaga's electropop sound. Previews of the album began to appear on YouTube on June 23, 2009. The lead single, Evacuate the Dancefloor, features a variety of synthesizers. Different basslines and new instrument sounds contrast to the traditional style of Cascada of which was the only styling used in previous songs. 'Fever' for instance features a standard dance music beat with electropop synths and is also the only song on the albums that is censored. 'Ready Or Not' is a monumental throbathon that's a throwback to the cheesy floor-fillers of the 90s eurodance. 'Hold On', 'Dangerous' and 'Everytime I Hear Your Name' are classy eurodance anthems with pulsating beats, swirling synths and vocoder effects. 'Breathless' mimics Kelly Clarkson's pop-rock sound with pulsating synths and the drum beats of 'Evacuate the Dancefloor'.

The Mountain Goats‘ John Darnielle has been lauded by many folks, us included, as one of the best lyricists around. And for his next songwriting subject, he’s drawing inspiration from a rather hefty source: the Bible. In fact, each song on his band’s October release, The Life of the World to Come, earns its title from a specific verse.
Here’s what Darnielle had to say about the whole venture in a statement:
“I guess the obvious question is going to be: ‘John, have you had some sort of religous awakening?’ and while I guess lots of people might want to be coy about answering that, that’s never really my style, so: no. It’s not like that. It’s not some heavy-narrative-distance deal either, though, and it’s not a screed. It’s twelve new songs: twelve hard lessons the Bible taught me, kind of. More than that I’d want to wait to say until some people have heard it, which won’t be long. Will there be more news soon, quite soon? Like, next week, even? Oh yes there will!”

Pillar is a Grammy-nominated Christian rock band currently located in Tulsa, Oklahoma.Confessions is the sixth studio album .Rob Beckley commented about the album, 'I had never had goose bumps listening to our own music before, but this album is just on a whole different level. We're indebted to everyone who played a role in pushing us out of our comfort zones. And I couldn't be more proud of our band.'
Beckley further describes the concept as, '1 John 1:9 says, 'If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.' Every song on this album could be broken down to 'If you just confess.' Under this umbrella, recurring themes on Confessions include unity, commitment and perseverance.
When Blaine Barcus, VP of A&R, Provident Label Group talked about the album he spoke highly of it saying, 'the album features songs which range from muscular, guitar-driven gut rock to beautiful, orchestral ballads. 'Confessions is the kind of album that will make CHR radio listeners fans of rock music. The goal was that every single song on this album would be a great fit for radio, and I think the overall project reflects that goal. Rob and the guys poured themselves into the music and this project really delivers

Osmosaïc is a french Montreal based duet. Their music includes folk, pop, celtic, rock, country and latin influences filled with intricate vocal harmonies.
Mario Landry started playing guitar at the end of his adolescence. In 1989, with the help of a friend, he forms 'Clockwork 7', his first group. Three years later, after few shows, the venture ends. Too absorbed by the management of a small enterprise, music is shelved. Then comes an artistically unproductive period which will last six years. In 1998 he takes private classes in guitar and singing. During that period, he shares with an old member of Clocwork 7, Christopher Cousineau, many evenings where they mutually enrich their respective musical universe. These encounters, although periodical, will remain a major influence for him.
In the year 2000, he's brought together again with a friend from way back, Viviane Lamy, who has a few compositions up her sleeves without any precise career plan. After having cumulated a few private classes in singing, guitar playing and drawing she is thinking more and more seriously about giving a direction to her artistic skills. It is in taking the decision to actively search for new opportunities that she decides to call her old friend to make a demo. The demo ends up turning into an album project bringing together their respective 'répertoire'. Before beginning the recordings, they decide to fly to Europe, a way to gain inspiration and play with a few ideas. These ideas will add themselves to the material already developed and will favor the birth of Osmosaic. Once back, they transform a section of the house they both now live in, into a real laboratory. They play around with images, texts and music. A recording studio is set up. Just the time needed to gain a few technical notions about sound recording and graphic design and the launching takes place. The result of this first project comes to life in September 2004 and is called 'Un', Their first

The first time we heard 29 year old Nino Moschella we knew he had a magic touch. Gritty, soulful, and honest, his vocal styling and unique funk productions were a must-have for Ubiquity. Imagine our surprise when we learned that this golden voice belonged to a rough n’tumble Irish-Italian-American character from around the way.
Fellow Bay Area crooner Bart Davenport bought Nino Moschella to our attention. He mailed us a demo of tracks that had been recorded at Moschella’s home studio. Working on only a 4-track tape machine, hand claps and broom-stick banging took the place of the usual computer driven drum loops. Innovating with limited resources his lo-fi studio situation provided the perfect gritty back-drop to a big and bold vocal talent. Moschella’s demo was a series of well-written songs with a unique and blend of 1960s soul and funk mixed with even a little bit of indie-pop and folk.
Moschella carries his DIY demo spirit through to his debut album, The Fix, to be released late May 2006. His first official release from this album is, “The Real Better Believe EP”, which the influential music blog Music For Robots calls “absolutely fabulous…a record that Steve Wonder should be making in 2006.” It also caused DJ Mag to label the EP “Single of the month” and state, “Cut from the same cloth as soul/funk legends Stevie Wonder, Prince, Betty Davis and Sly Stone, 29 year old, multi-instrumentalist Nino Moschella is what they call in A&R circles “a right f*cking find”.”
Leading off with “Better Off”, Nino plays almost all the instruments (as with most of his tracks) and makes most of the noises from drums to beat boxing. It’s a minimal production keeping only the most essential elements in a bass-line driven rock n’soul style. On “Are You For Real” lo-fi stoner grooves on top are backdrop for Moschella who starts off subtle in falsetto but slowly builds to climatic scream. And on “Believe In Yourself” he adds a little gospel to the mix with a trippy organ section mid-way through.
The Fix album continues the EP’s fusion of genres and eras. With one foot firmly planted in the present Moschella’s musical mash-up is also a reminder that there were days when bands like Jimi Hendrix played on the same bill as Led Zepplin, The Grateful Dead and Sly and The Family Stone. On The Fix he has found his own way of blending rock, soul, and funk and blurring the lines between electronic and acoustic music.
Born into a musical family Moschella’s father was perhaps his first musical influence. “My dad sings and plays guitar. He started out in the choir and singing doo-wop in the Bronx,” explains Moschella. “My mom sings lullabies, I had a great uncle Nino who played the violin and my grand folks were always singin’. You know, typical loud Sicilian folks always carrying on.” Nino Moschella now lives with his wife Mia and recently born daughter in Friant, California, close to Yosemite, in a round house his father built with friends in the late 1960s. They also built a music studio on the property which is where most of his album is being recorded. There’s nothing much but trees, creeks, coyotes, the sun, moon and stars to keep them company.
Moschella’s first musical outing was at the tender age of 5 years old. His father told him to keep time on the snare drum for his rhythm and blues band because their drummer failed to show up for practice. “It was a rim shot on the three. I couldn’t reach any of the peddles, so I kept it simple,” jokes Moschella. But his drumming aspirations grew, and before deciding he’d write and sing, Moschella was set on being a jazz drummer. In fact he plays drums, beatboxes and bangs random items around the studio all over the album in-progress in addition to playing the majority of the instrumentation, too. “I play drums, bass, guitar, stuff with strings, stuff with skin, hand claps, string bass on my sweat shirt tassels,” lists Moschella. “I’m workin’ on my keys. I’m workin’ on all that shit…always.”
When Ubiquity Records first made contact with Moschella, propping up the bar at local East Bay haunt The Ivy Room, it was clear that he had not previously heard of Ubiquity and was someone with musical influences that didn’t include the typical list of current funk and soul faves. He even sested we might file his records between Caruso and Louie Prima, “In with the other Italian soul singers,” he joked. Of his influences Moschella says, “In the last couple of years I discovered Donny Hathaway’s music and voice. That dude was incredible,” and added, “If I find myself getting clouded or too heady, I’ll put on some Miles or Oscar Peterson or the Montgomery Bros. or Jimmy Smith. That seems to help center me on why I do this. You know, to play, express, communicate, and have fun. It seems like every other day something blows my mind even if I’ve heard it a thousand times. If American culture is blessed in only one way it is definitely the depth and richness of our music.”
Playing the demos to a few label friends earned Moschella comparisons to everyone from classic soul artists like Michael Jackson to Little Beaver, and new acts like Little Barrie or Amp Fiddler.
A new addition to his family, a bouncing baby girl called Estrella Icilda Rosemary Moschella Birdsong (!), has helped shape his recent recordings. And when he’s not in the studio, or playing Poppa he confesses he’s probably carrying out other Sicilian traditions either “Making love or making food.”

DOF - Rid The Tree Of Its Rain EP (2009) (Electronic,Downtempo) (Megaupload,Depositfiles)

'Rid the of Tree it’s Rain' is a new EP of vocal based organic electronica from DoF, released on CD by Abandon Building. DoF (aka Brian Hulick) is one of the most prolific voices of underground electronic music, releasing eight albums (both physical and digital) along with a small armada of comp tracks and remixes over the last 6 or 7 years. DoF initially came to the attention of discerning file sharers with his inclusion on a compilation hosted by the Soulseek community. His unique blend of disjointed IDM inspired percussion and lush playful melodies attracted the attention of the UK record label Highpoint-Lowlife, who released the debut 'If More Than Twenty People Laugh, It Wasn't Funny'.
Hulick then combined forces with the U.S. label Abandon Building, who selected his EP 'Mine is May' as their second release. The response was nothing short of amazing. DoF's next full length 'Sun Strength and Shield' met with similar success, ending up on several best of the year lists.
Now DoF has returned with 'Rid the of Tree it’s Rain' 7 new songs in the vein of 'Red Pine Pasture' with organic percussion complementing the digital beatwork. The result is one of the most perfect summer albums a pair of ears could ever hope to meet. Every track is drenched in sunshine and warm regard, with Hulick's understated yet poignant lyrics painting portraits of fond memories and forgotten dreams.
There is little one can say about DoF that isn’t best left said by the music itself. He is not only one of the pioneers of the electro-acoustic movement but continues to reinvent it every couple of years. 'Rid the of Tree it’s Rain' ' has some of DoF's finest guitar work, each note seeming more joyful than the last. The drums are a choppy fusion of glitch and Afro-Cuban jazz that almost dares the listener not to bob their head. The vocal content forgoes the use of irony or theatrics, instead plotting a straight path to your heart. Go ahead and give it a listen. Your ears will thank you.
