PPSX is a PowerPoint Open XML Slide Show which was mainly designed to be non-editable and basically playback a PowerPoint presentation created prior. Files with the PPSX extension differ from PPTX which permits the file to be editable. The “X” extension refers to Microsoft Office 2007, 2010 and 2012 which ZIP compresse the file. Therefore, PPSX filles are different from the older versions that generally have files with large sizes.
Technical details of PPSX files
PPSX are the compressed files that are based on the ECMA 376 standard for Office Open XML. Video, audio, image and text files can be supported by files with this extension. PPSX files are stored in a zipped directory format that matches the OPC structure. Like the PPTX format, the PPSX file format improves data recovery, data management, and file sizing. It permits for other applications to interact with it due to the XML structure.

PPSX files, used by Microsoft PowerPoint, share several of the same features of other types of PowerPoint files. Imagine that you are about to give a cleverly crafted presentation you created using PowerPoint. Instead of starting up PowerPoint, waiting for it to load and launching your presentation, you can double-click a file on your desktop to start the show if your presentation is in a PPSX file.
Definition
Save your presentation with a PPSX file type and you create a read-only PowerPoint slideshow file. Like other slideshows you see on the Web or on your desktop, PPSX slideshows display sequences of images. Special effects, sound and graphics may accompany the images as they play. The slideshow's creator shapes its appearance and functionality. The creator also has the option to make it play automatically instead of requiring users to click to advance the slides.
Opening PPSX Files
If you receive a PPSX, you can read it using PowerPoint. If you do not have this application, you can download Microsoft's free PowerPoint Viewer from its website. This viewer allows you to open and view any PPSX presentation. Once you have a program that can read a PPSX file, double-click it to view the slideshow. Press the 'Esc' key to end the slideshow and close the PPSX file automatically.
PPSX Versus PPTX
PowerPoint supports other file types, such as PPTX files. A PPTX file also displays PowerPoint slideshows. You can create a PPTX file if you select the PPTX file type option when saving your presentation. When a user double-clicks a PPTX file, PowerPoint opens in edit mode and allows the user to edit the slideshow. When a user double-clicks a PPSX file, he only sees a slide show. PowerPoint does not display its user interface. PPTX and PPSX files are similar enough, that you can swap the letters 'T' an 'S' in their file names and they will work.
Creating PPSX Files
After combining your graphics, text and other multimedia items in PowerPoint, you have the option to save your presentation as a PPSX file. After opening the 'Save As' window, you can view a list of file extensions by clicking the window's 'Save as Type' drop-down arrow. Click the 'PPSX' option, then click 'Save' to save the file to a folder of your choice. You can then place that file on your website as a downloadable link, or send it to someone as an email attachment.
